Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Concord University softball team continued its winning ways Saturday with a doubleheader sweep against Glenville State College in Mountain East Conference play. Concord took game one 12-4 and finished the afternoon with a 6-2 victory vs. the Pioneers in game two.

Concord has now won five of its last six games to improve its record to 24-14 overall and 8-8 in league play. With the losses, Glenville State drops to 11-17 overall and 5-9 in conference games.

The trio of sophomore Kristen Rose, freshman Lauren Lewis and sophomore Allie Reid led the Concord offense with solid performances at the plate. For the day, Rose went 4-for-8 with four RBI, one stolen base and one home run. Lewis added a 3-for-7, two-run, three-RBI, one-home run showing while Reid had perhaps her best offensive series as a Mountain Lion, going 4-for-7 with three RBI and a pair of runs.

Both Rose's and Lewis' home runs were their fifth of the season. Lewis' homer was her third in the last four games. With hits in each game Saturday, Lewis extended her team-leading hit streak to six games.

Concord never trailed in game one as CU produced five runs over the first two innings while Reid was nearly unhittable in the final four innings on the way to a 12-4 series-opening victory. Concord led by just one run at 5-4 going into the sixth inning, but the Maroon and Gray sealed the game with three insurance runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh for the eight-run triumph.

Reid excelled in every facet of the game; she produced a multi-RBI game off of a two-run single in the first inning and improved to 13-5 on the year in the circle by striking out six Pioneers and scattering four runs on 10 hits in the complete-game victory. Reid allowed just three hits over the game's final four innings.

The Mountain Lions totaled 12 hits in the game with Rose, sophomore Alyssa Morris, freshman Courtney Purtell and junior Brantlea Wood each recording two-hit outings.

Rose scored four times in game one and launched a three-run home run in the seventh inning while also stealing her team-leading 15th base of the season. Wood flashed power at the plate in the seventh as well with her second-career home run.

Game two was a pitcher's duel throughout the majority of the contest as Concord freshman pitcher Sarah Herndon and Glenville State's Sam Weaver were both dominant for long stretches of the contest.

With Concord's offense managing just two hits through the first three innings, Herndon kept the Mountain Lions in the game by striking out five batters and holding GSC to just two hits to keep the game scoreless heading into the fourth inning when Concord proceeded to break the tie by loading the bases for Wood, who drew a walk to bring in Reid for the game's first run.

CU hung onto the lead until the sixth inning when Glenville State tied the contest thanks to an RBI-double from Morgan Scarpellini.

However, Concord answered back with five runs in the seventh inning to take a commanding 6-1 advantage. Wood and Seymour led off the frame with a walk and single, respectively, before Morris gave Concord the lead back with an RBI to plate Wood from second base. Rose and Reid followed Morris with matching RBI-singles while Lewis put an exclamation point on the inning with a two-run home run.

The Pioneers got one run back in the bottom of the inning via a solo home run by Johnni Tillman with two outs, but Herndon quickly regrouped to strikeout the game's final battle to secure the win and the sweep.

Herndon (3-7), who picked up her third win of the season Saturday, struck out eight batters and allowed only five hits without giving up a walk for the first time this season.

Concord's nine hits in game two came from four players; Reid was 3-for-4 with two runs, Rose went 2-for-4 while Lewis and junior outfielder Jessica Seymour both went 2-for-3 with Lewis driving in two runs thanks to her seventh-inning home run.

The Mountain Lions will look to close out its weekend with two more wins Sunday at No. 17 West Virginia Wesleyan. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
