Box Score 2 JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Concord University softball team lost a doubleheader to Carson-Newman College, 8-5 and 7-4, Tuesday afternoon at The Vick Softball Field in Jefferson City, Tenn.
The losses drop Concord's record to 10-5 on the season while Carson-Newman improves to 15-5 with the wins.
The Mountain Lions were led on the day by sophomore second baseman
Kristen Rose, who went 3-for-8 with one run and five RBI to go with a double, triple and home run.
Game One: Carson-Newman 8 - Concord 5 (Box Score)
Concord jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, but a seven-run third inning by Carson-Newman was too much for the Mountain Lions to overcome in the 8-5 defeat.
Rose led off the game with her second home run of the season to give CU an early 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
Freshman third baseman
Kelsey Lineberger led off the second inning by launching a home run to center field. The long ball was Lineberger's second of the season. The Mountain Lions later tacked on two more runs in the inning when Rose cleared the bases with a two-run triple scoring junior outfielder

Allie Reid to put CU ahead 4-0.
Carson-Newman answered back in the third inning starting with an RBI-single from Kelli Hensley. After loading the bases, C-N's Brittany Hefner hit a grand slam down the left field line to give the Eagles a 5-4 advantage. The Eagles added two more run in the frame to give itself a three-run edge over Concord.
The Mountain Lions got one run back in the fourth inning after freshman catcher
Carly DiVirgilio led off the inning by being hit by a pitch before later scoring from third base on a balk to reduce the deficit to 7-5
However, Concord was unable to finish off the comeback as Carson-Newman added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth on its way to the three-run win in game one.
Rose finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored, a home run, triple and three RBI. Seymour also tallied a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with one run scored and one stolen base, her sixth of the year.
Reid (5-1) struck out three batters, but allowed seven runs on 10 hits over 2.2 innings to for her first loss of the year. Junior
Lacey McDougall came on in relief of Reid to give up just one run and two hits over the final 3.1 innings.
Game Two: Carson-Newman 7 - Concord 4 (Box Score)
Carson-Newman scored five runs in the second inning en route to the 7-4 victory in the nightcap.
Entering the third inning down five runs, Concord was undaunted as the Mountain Lions rattled off three unanswered runs over the proceeding three innings to cut the Eagles' lead down to just two runs at 5-3.
Concord plated two runs in the third inning thanks to Rose driving in Reid, who led off the inning with a walk, and McDougall knocking a double that brought in Seymour from second base.
Rose continued the onslaught in the fifth inning by belting a double that allowed Seymour to cross home plate to make it a 5-3 contest.
After Carson-Newman pushed its lead back to three runs with a score, the Mountain Lions continued to keep the pressure on C-N when Lineberger smashed her second home run of the afternoon with one out in the sixth to cut the lead back to two runs at 6-4.
However, the Eagles were once again able to hold off CU's comeback bid by adding another run in the sixth while holding Concord scoreless in the seventh en route to the win.
Six different players recorded hits in game two including Rose, who had another two-RBI performance, and Lineberger, whose home run tied her with McDougall for a team-high three on the year.
Freshman pitcher
Sarah Herndon (2-3) was the pitcher of record for Concord after giving up five runs on six hits over two innings.
McDougall relieved Herndon by pitching three innings, surrendering just one run to lower her team-best ERA to 1.99 this season. Reid closed out the game in the sixth inning.
Concord looks to return to its winning ways when it hosts Millersville University 2:00 p.m. Friday in what will be the Mountain Lions' home opener at the CU Softball Field.
