ATHENS, W. Va. – The Concord University baseball team completed a four-game series sweep of Glenville State by taking a doubleheader from the Pioneers Sunday at Anderson Field in Mountain East Conference play 10-4 and 8-5.

The Mountain Lions exit the weekend with an overall record of 18-10 and a MEC mark of 15-7. Glenville State falls to 4-19 overall and 4-15 in league play with the losses.

Game One: Concord 10 – Glenville State 4 (Box Score)
Game one was never in doubt as the Mountain Lions scored 10 consecutive runs in Concord's 10-4 game-one victory.

Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, Concord busted the contest open with a six-run inning that featured RBI singles from sophomore outfielder Charles Goss, senior catcher Brandon Costa and sophomore outfielder Andrew Seigel as well as a two-run home run by senior first baseman Joey Miller.

Concord went on to add two more runs in the fourth as well as one-run innings in the fifth and sixth to take a 10-1 lead into the seventh. Glenville State managed three runs in its final turn at-bat, but senior relief pitcher Dustin Nuckels forced a bases-loaded groundout to end the game and the Pioneers' comeback bid.

For the game, Miller was an impressive 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs scored and one home run. The home run was Miller's team-leading eighth of the year. Through 28 games, Miller is hitting .449 with 25 runs, 38 RBI and a stellar .481 on-base percentage. 16 of Miller's 40 hits have gone for extra-bases in 2014.

Goss and senior Costa both totaled two-RBI performances as well with Costa going 2-for-3 at the plate and Goss stealing one base. Sophomore shortstop Brad Sullivan was Concord's third player to post a two-hit game, going 2-for-3 with one run and one stolen base. Sullivan now has three straight multi-hit outings.

Making his first start of the season, junior pitcher Kevin Mack (1-0) earned the victory by allowing just one run on eight hits while striking out two batters in four innings. Nuckels registered the three-inning in support of Mack.

Game Two: Concord 8 – Glenville State 5 (Box Score)
The Mountain Lions scored seven runs over the first three innings and survived a four-run rally by the Pioneers to clinch the series sweep with an 8-5 victory in game two Sunday.

Sullivan, junior second baseman Jerrod Groves and sophomore designated hitter Joe Camp all recorded two-hit, one-RBI games with Groves stealing one base and Camp delivering a single to pace CU in the nightcap.

Also aiding the Concord offense with a hit apiece were Seigel, Goss and senior outfielder Bret Blevins. In addition to their hits, Seigel and Blevins both drove in a run while Goss stole two bases.

Senior pitchers Tim Leather (4-0) and Chris Baker combined to give up no runs and just three hits in the final 4.1 innings of play. Leather, who came on in relief of starting pitcher Barinder Rakkar, threw 1.1 scoreless innings to pick up the win; his fourth of the season, while Baker collected his team-high third save of the year after scattering two hits over the last three innings.

The Mountain Lions scored two runs in the first inning when Blevins, who had walked earlier in the inning, scored off of a GSC fielding error followed by an RBI-double from Camp that plated Miller, who had reached base on the Pioneers' aforementioned error.

Glenville State got one run back in the second before Concord responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the frame to extend its lead to 5-1. The Pioneers once again were able to come away with runs third inning by tallying four scores on five hits to even the score at 5-5.

However, the Mountain Lions quickly responded in its next at-bat. Camp led off the bottom of the third with a single before advancing to second base on a wild pitch. Sullivan proceeded to score Camp via a single, giving Concord a 6-5 lead. Sullivan would go on to score on another Pioneer fielding error to push the Mountain Lions' lead to 7-5.

The two-run cushion was more than enough for the combination of Leather and Baker as just one Glenville State base runner, who was thrown out at home by Sullivan, got into scoring position after the third inning.

Concord added an insurance run in sixth when Seigel scored on a wild pitch en route to the 8-5 victory.

Concord now embarks on a 14-game road trip starting with a four-game series at the University of Charleston April 5-6.
