Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 URBAMA, Ohio – The Concord University baseball team split a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Urbana University Sunday, losing game one 6-3 before ending the weekend on a high note with a 15-6 victory over the Blue Knights in game two.

Concord exits the weekend at 14-8 overall and 11-5 in league play. With the 3-1 series victory, Urbana improves to 8-4 overall and 7-3 in MEC completion.

The Mountain Lions' 15-run outburst in game two was their third double-digit scoring performance of 2014 and were the most runs scored in a game by CU this season.

Sophomore outfielder Andrew Seigel went 4-for-9 on the day with three runs, one RBI and three stolen bases. Seigel has now recorded three consecutive two-hit games while increasing his stolen base total to a team-high 10.

Junior second baseman Jerrod Groves also enjoyed a solid pair of games Sunday, going 3-for-7 with three runs and one RBI. Likewise, senior outfielder Bret Blevins tallied hits in both games, finishing the afternoon 3-for-5 with four runs, one RBI and one stolen base.

Game One: Urbana 6 – Concord 3 (Box Score)
Concord jumped out to an early three-run lead in game one, but Urbana rallied to score six unanswered runs for the 6-3 victory in the opener.

Seigel (2-for-3), Groves (2-for-4) and Blevins (1-for-2) accounted for five of Concord's six hits in game one while freshman Patrick Thompson accounted for the other on a pinch hit single in the seventh inning for his first collegiate hit.

Senior first baseman Joey Miller got the Mountain Lions on the board in the first inning with a groundout RBI that scored Seigel. Concord added two more runs in the second to push its lead to 3-0 off of back-to-back two-out run-scoring hits from Groves and Blevins that drove in senior catcher Brandon Costa and Seigel, respectively.

However, Urbana starter Justin Robinson went on to limit CU to just two hits over the remainder of the game while the Blue Knight offense posted two-run innings in the second, fourth and sixth to pull away for a 6-3 victory.

Sophomore pitcher Chris Kelly (3-2) took the loss for Concord after allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out four over 3.1 innings of work. Senior Tim Leather threw the final 2.2 innings, striking out two batters and giving up two hits and two unearned runs.

Game Two: Concord 15 – Urbana 6 (Box Score)
A seven-run first inning paved the way for Concord's finest offensive performance of the season as the Mountain Lions avoided the four-game sweep with a dominating 15-6 win in game two.

Eight different players pounded out 13 hits, Concord's third most this season, with Miller leading the way on a 3-for-3, three-run, three-RBI effort that included two doubles. Sophomore designated hitter Joe Camp hit one spot behind Miller in CU's batting order and finished with a career-high five RBI.

In addition to Miller's three-hit outing, Seigel (2-for-5), Blevins (2-for-3) and junior third baseman Ryan Johnston (2-for-5) all had multi-hit games in the nightcap. Seigel stole two bases, Blevins scored four runs and Johnston drove in two scores.

Game two was never in doubt thanks to Concord's strong start. The Mountain Lions entered the fourth inning leading 7-3 before producing two runs in the frame and four more in the sixth to take a commanding 13-3 advantage en route to their eventual nine-run triumph.

Junior pitcher Bryant Pybus recorded his first collegiate victory after entering the game in the bottom of the first inning for freshman starter Zach Kelly and proceeding to scatter six hits and three runs over 4.1 innings.

Senior Chris Baker tossed two scoreless innings to close out the game. Baker has now gone five straight appearances (7.2 innings) without allowing a run.

Concord returns home to Anderson Field for a conference doubleheader against West Virginia State. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
