Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 URBANA, Ohio – For the first time this season, the Concord University baseball team lost back-to-back games as the Mountain Lions fell at Urbana University Saturday 5-3, 7-3.

The Mountain Lions posted two runs in the top of the first inning when junior second baseman Jerrod Groves, who doubled earlier in the inning, and senior outfielder Bret Blevins, who reached base via an error, put themselves into scoring position on a double steal before eventually scoring on a passed ball.

Urbana erased Concord's lead in the bottom half of the inning with four runs on four hits and an error. Urbana added an additional run in the sixth before Concord attempted a seventh inning rally that saw sophomore outfielder Andrew Seigel drive in junior outfielder T.J. Brockway to make it a two run contest. However, UU relief pitcher Jordan Hill ended the rally by forcing Groves to flyout to end the game and secure the Blue Knight victory.

Concord starting pitcher Ryan Weatherholtz fell to 3-2 on the season after giving up five runs on six hits while striking out four batters over 5.1 innings.

Seigel, Groves and sophomore shortstop Brad Sullivan accounted for Concord's three hits in the opener while Brockway earned a pair of walks. In addition to Groves and Blevins' double steal, Sullivan also stole his seventh base of the season, tying him for the team lead.

Urbana scored three runs in the first and seventh inning as well as one run in the third to get the best of the Mountain Lions, 7-3, in game two.

For the game, Seigel went 2-for-4 from his leadoff spot in the batting order while Brockway added a pair of hits as well with a 2-for-2 game that included one double.

Blevins went 1-for-3 with one run, one RBI and a stolen base, his second of the day and seventh of the season. Senior first baseman Joey Miller also added a hit and a stolen base in the night cap.

Trailing 3-0, the Mountain Lions got their first run of the game in the second inning. Miller shot a single to right field and later advanced to third base on Brockway's double before scoring by way of a wild pitch to make it a two-run game.

Urbana would reestablish its three-run, 4-1, lead with a run in the third inning before the Mountain Lions strung together a pair of unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make it a 4-3 affair. Brockway drove in Blevins, who singled and stole a base earlier in the inning, in the fourth with Blevins then driving in Sullivan on a run scoring-groundout in the fifth for his 22nd RBI of the year.

However, Urbana ended any thoughts of a comeback with three runs in the sixth inning, all of which came on two outs to preserve the victory.

Senior pitcher Tyler Coyle threw 5.2 innings for Concord being charged with four earned runs on seven hits. Coyle struck out two Urbana batters and walked three, dropping her record to 2-2. Senior Dustin Nuckels came on in relief to record the final out for CU.

The Mountain Lions will look to salvage a four-game split against Urbana with two wins Sunday. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m.
