ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team fell to West Liberty, 80-61, in Mountain East Conference action Thursday night at the Carter Center.
Concord (9-11, 7-9 MEC) was led by junior forward
Andrea Bertrand, who registered 25 points on 11-for-18 shooting and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Thursday marked the third time in her last four games that Bertrand has scored at least 25 points. Additionally, over her last six games, the Midlothian, Va. native is averaging 9.5 rebounds per contest.
Junior guard
Sissy Wagner was the second Mountain Lion in double figures with 12 points while handing out four assists and collecting five rebounds.
Freshman guard
Olivia Morgan came off the bench and tallied career-highs in both points and rebounds with eight and six, respectively. Morgan's 26 minutes played were the second-most in her young collegiate career.
Bertrand kept CU in the game over the opening portion of the first half by scoring 11 of Concord's first 15 points as CU found itself trailing by just one point at 16-15 with 10:34 to play in the period.
After trading baskets through the following two minutes, the Hilltoppers (14-8, 11-5 MEC) closed the half by outscoring the Mountain Lions 21-17 to take a 37-32 edge into the break.
West Liberty sprung out on a decisive 18-4 run over the first five minutes of the second half that Concord could never recover from en route to the 19-point defeat.
For the contest, Concord held advantages over West Liberty in points in the paint (46-40) and second chance points (13-10). The teams matched each other in offensive rebounds (12) and points off turnovers (nine).

CU shot 40.9 percent (27-for-66) from the floor.
The Mountain Lions return to action 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Carter Center against Wheeling Jesuit. Saturday's contest will be Concord's annual Play 4Kay game to support breast cancer awareness. All fans are encouraged to wear pink, the international symbol for breast cancer awareness.
