ATHENS, W. Va. - The Concord University men's basketball team will finish off its 2013-14 regular season road schedule with a pair of games Thursday and Saturday at Mountain East Conference rivals the University of Charleston and West Virginia State University.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• With five games remaining in the regular season, Concord currently sits 11th in the conference standings at 7-16 overall and 4-13 in the MEC.

• If the season were to end today, CU would travel to play at Glenville State in the first round of the MEC Tournament on March 4.

• Charleston, losers of three of its last four games, begin the week at 14-7 overall and 11-6 in league play.

• West Virginia State is just one game ahead of Concord in the MEC standings with a conference mark of 5-12 to go with an overall record of 8-12.

• Earlier in the season, the Mountain Lions dropped close decisions to both Charleston and W. Va. State 81-73 and 94-85, respectively.

• Concord shot 51.9 percent (28-for-54) against the Golden Eagles and junior guard Mike Boyd scored 14 points while passing out seven assists in the loss.

• Boyd and sophomore guard Cam Shannon both went for 16 points in CU's first contest vs. W. Va. State.

• A win over Charleston would snap UC's seven-game winning streak over Concord.

• A victory over West Virginia State would give Concord a 35-34 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools. Concord has won four of the last five games against West Virginia State.

• Over the Mountain Lions' last four games Boyd is averaging 16.5 points per game (ppg) on impressive shooting efforts of 54.8 percent from the field and 85.0 percent from the foul line to go with 4.3 assists per game (apg) and 1.3 steals per game (spg).

• Boyd needs just nine assists to crack Concord's career top-10 list for assists.

• Freshman guard Aaron Miller and sophomore forward Taylor Smith had arguably their best games in a Concord uniform in CU's Feb. 8 88-82 loss at Wheeling Jesuit.

• Miller connected on four three-pointers and went 6-for-11 overall from the field to score a career-high 16 points while Smith tallied 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked one shot against the Cardinals.

• Smith has averaged 12.5 ppg and 5.0 rpg in Concord's last two games.

• Junior guard Paul Byrd had a career-high seven rebounds vs. WJU.

• Freshman Grant Dickinson has displayed both his shooting and rebounding abilities recently. The 6-9 forward has made five three-pointers in his past three games while registering no fewer than four rebounds in each of those outings.

• After playing in four out of a possible 13 games from Dec. 5 - Feb. 1, freshman guard Ali Barnes has rebounded to average 10.0 ppg in Concord's last three games. 

• The Mountain Lions rank in the top-half of the league in three-point percentage (fifth / 35.8), free throw percentage (fifth / 72.3) and points allowed (sixth / 81.4 ppg).

• Individually, Boyd ranks in the MEC's top-20 in four categories: scoring (20th / 15.0 ppg), assists (eighth / 4.1 apg), field goal percentage (13th / 55.5) and assist-turnover ratio (13th / 1.46).

• Other Concord players that rank among the league best include sophomore forward Terry Hopewell in blocks (fifth / 1.1) and freshman guard B.J. Hamlet in three-pointers made per game (14th / 2.1).

• CU has played in 10 games this season which were decided by five points or less, compiling a 4-6 record in those contests.
