Concord Readies for MEC Road Contests at Glenville, Wesleyan

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's basketball team will play a pair of Mountain East Conference games 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Glenville State and 4:00 p.m. Sunday at West Virginia Wesleyan.

RECORDS
• Concord is 4-2 overall and 1-1 in MEC competition.

• Glenville State is 4-2 overall and has a percent 2-0 record against league foes.

• West Virginia Wesleyan is 1-5 overall and is 0-2 in the MEC.

COACHES
• Kent McBride is in the midst of his fourth season at CU and has compiled a 45-46 record.

• GSC's Stephen Dye started his sixth season in charge of the Pioneers and is 53-90.

• Gary Nottingham is in his first season at West Virginia Wesleyan after previously serving as an assistant at Illinois for 10 seasons.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Sunday's game with West Virginia Wesleyan was originally scheduled to be played in Athens on Saturday, but was moved to Buckhannon, West Virginia Sunday because of the Concord University football team hosting the Super Region One Final Saturday afternoon.

• Senior guard Mike Boyd was named Mountain East Conference Player of the Week after posting per game averages of 20 points, 5.6 rebounds and six assists as Concord went 2-1 in three games last week.

• Boyd was the first conference player of the week that has head coach Kent McBride has mentored during his tenure at CU and the first men's basketball league athlete of the week since Javaughn Manuel in November 2010.

• Last time out versus Francis Marion, the Mountain Lions passed out a season-high 21 assists on 29 made field goals. Boyd (eight) and senior guard Paul Byrd (five) combined for 13 of the assists.

• The Mountain Lions assisted on 72 percent of their shots, which was the highest percentage since last season at home against Glenville State when CU assists on 26 of 32 made shots (81 percent).

• Sophomore guard Aaron Miller is one the best marksmen in the MEC as he is shooting 61 percent (47-for-77), third best in the conference. Additionally, Miller is shooting 47 percent from three-point range (18-for-38).

• Boyd and Miller are third-best scoring duo in the MEC averaging 38.8 per game. Miller is fourth in scoring (20.3 points per game) and Boyd is seventh (18.5 ppg).

• Junior guard Rob Reed has been the best player off of the CU bench this season as he has scored 18 and 12 points respectively as CU's sixth man the last two games.

• The Mountain Lions are second in the MEC in rebounding margin at +4.5 and it has been a group effort as three different CU players are in the top-20 in rebounding. Junior forward Jametrius Wade leads the trio with 7.8 rpg (seventh/7.8), junior forward Terry Hopewell (14th/6.0) and Boyd (17th/5.7).

• Last season, Concord split with both Glenville State and West Virginia Wesleyan as they won at home against both, but fell on the road.

• Hopewell had a career-high 21 points versus GSC as he shot 8-for-10 from the field.

• On the road against the Pioneers, junior guard Cam Shannon posted a career-high 25 points while also coming away with four steals.

SCOUTING GLENVILLE STATE
• Although Glenville State is seventh in the league in scoring (80.3 ppg), the Pioneers have scored 103 and 97 points in their last two wins over Shepherd and Fairmont State.

• Donte Morales is right behind Miller in scoring in the conference averaging 20.2 ppg.

• Glenville State is just one of three undefeated teams in league play along with Notre Dame and West Liberty.

SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
• The Bobcats' Tanner McGraw is second in the conference in rebounding, pulling down nine board per contest.

• WVWC's lone win came in their second game of the season against Mercyhurst in nonconference action.

UP NEXT
Concord will host Bluefield State December 15 in its in home opener.
