Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Concord Falls at Notre Dame

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Concord University men's basketball team fell to Notre Dame College in its Mountain East Conference Saturday afternoon at Murphy Gymnasium, 86-76.

Concord had four players score 10 or more points in senior guard Mike Boyd (15), junior forward Jametrius Wade (15), junior forward Terry Hopewell (14) and sophomore guard Aaron Miller (13), but a 16-6 run by NDC in the late stages of the second half was too much for the Mountain Lions to overcome.

The first half featured four ties and 14 lead changes with CU holding a half-high lead of six points. The Falcons were able to close the gap to three points at half time.

Over the first 10 minutes of the second half, Boyd and junior guard Rob Reed combined for 11 of Concord's first 15 points of the second half with Boyd scoring seven and Reed four. Senior guard Paul Byrd and Miller each contributed a basket over the span. After a Reed jumper with 9:50 left in the game, Concord held its last lead of the game at 60-59.

Notre Dame would score 18 of the next 24 points in the contest to take a commanding 77-66 lead with 3:44 remaining in the game. Unphased by a double-digit deficit, CU began its comeback attempt.

Concord answered the extended Falcons' run with an 8-0 over the next 2:25 to make it a three-point game 77-74 with 1:19 left. Wade scored four of the eight points for the Mountain Lions.

A quick 5-0 run by the Falcons ran their lead back to eight, ending any promise of a comeback win for the Mountain Lions as they fell 86-76.

Hopewell recorded his first double-double of the season with a 14-point, 12 rebound outing . Wade fell one board shy of a double-double of his win with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile for Reed, he scored a career-high nine points.

CU held advantages in field goal percentages (48.3-46.4), points in the paint (40-34), rebounds (37-34) and free throws made (17-15).

Concord will continue its road trip 7:30 p.m. Monday night at Urbana.
