RECORDS
• For the second time in three seasons, the Mountain Lions have started the season 2-0 after defeating Virginia State 76-69 and beating Elizabeth City State 80-78 at the Virginia State Classic Nov. 14-15.

• Notre Dame enters Saturday's matchup with a record of 2-1.

• Urbana snapped a 33-game losing streak last time out and has a record of 1-1.

SCOUTING CONCORD
Hot Start
• One of the biggest reasons why the Mountain Lions are 2-0 heading into the beginning of MEC play is the sharp shooting of sophomore guard Aaron Miller.

• Miller scored 51 points in two games  to start the season. Miller shot a sizzling 21-for-29 combined versus VSU and ECSU as he posted a career-high 31 points versus Virginia State on 13-for-20 from the field.

• Miller's 51 points is the most for any Concord player over a two-game stretch since Javaughn Manuel scored 59 total points against Wheeling Jesuit and Davis & Elkins during the 2011-2012 season.

Sharp Shooters
• The Mountain Lions shot over 50 percent in both games to start the season, 52.9 percent versus Virginia State and 51.1 percent against ECSU.

• With Miller shooting 21-of-29, senior guard Mike Boyd also shot 50 percent in his first two games (8-for-16) as he posted games of 20 points versus Elizabeth City State and 16 against VSU.

• It marked the first time CU shot 50 percent or better from the field since the 2010-11 season against Glenville State and Fairmont State.

Clutch Free Throws
• In a tight game with ECSU, the Mountain Lions won the game at the free throw line by sinking 9-of-10 free throws in the last five minutes of the game.

• Boyd led the way with a 5-for-6 showing while sophomore forward Jalen Camper and junior forward Terry Hopewell were both 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
Byrd Watch
• Senior guard Paul Byrd, a Cincinnati native, has played some of his best basketball at Concord versus teams from his home state.

• At Notre Dame last season, Byrd finished two points shy of his career with 18 on 7-for-11 shooting.

• In 2013-14 against Urbana at home, Byrd posted a 17-point game on 6-for-8 shooting.

Creating Chances
• Concord has scored 41 points off of turnovers so far this season including 28 against Virginia State. It was the most points off of turnovers for the Mountain Lions since they had 25 at West Virginia State last season.

Against Notre Dame
• In two meetings with the Falcons last season, Hopewell posted 26 points and 19 rebounds including a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds on the road against NDC.

Stopping Urbana
• Urbana was the only team Concord beat twice last season as they locked down the Blue Knights on the road, holding them to 31 percent shooting.

• The Mountain Lions were able to shoot 56 percent (9-for-16) from behind the arc against UU with sophomore forward Grant Dickinson (2-for-3) and Miller (2-for-4) leading the way.

NOTRE DAME NOTES
• Tyree Gaiter is the second-leading scorer in the MEC at 24.3 points per game through the first week of play.

• Notre Dame scored 112 points in a 112-99 win versus Virginia Union. The 112 points is the second most by an MEC team this season.

• Lawrence DeArmond was named a preseason second team All-American by Sporting News Magazine. DeArmond is averaging 18.7 points and 7.0 rebounds in three contests.

• The Falcons have the fourth best turnover margin in the league at +6.6.

URBANA NOTES
• The Blue Knights ended their long losing streak by defeating California (Pa.) 86-85 November 15.

• Rodney Clark is the early-season leading scorer for UU, averaging 18.5 points per game and shooting 50 percent from the field.

• Urbana is the best free-throw shooting team in the conference at 82.4 percent (42-for-51). CU is third at 81.1 percent (43-for-53)

UP NEXT
• Concord will play at the Bluefield State Currence Classic 7:30 p.m.  Friday, November 28 against host BSC.
