Concord Beaten In Overtime by Shepherd

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team fell in double overtime 1-0 to Mountain East Conference foe Shepherd Wednesday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex.

Concord falls to 1-8-1 overall and 1-6 in conference play while Shepherd improves to 6-4-1 overall and 3-4 in the MEC.

The first half of the game featured midfield play as neither team was able to get a shot on goal and only 10 total shots were tallied in the first 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, the Mountain Lions were able to register two shots on goal with one each from freshmen midfielders Alex Rhodes and Maximillian Simpson. However, both shots were turned aside by Rams goalkeeper Alex Aleshire.

After neither team was able to score a goal for the first 90 minutes, the game headed to two 10-minute overtime periods. Two minutes into overtime, Rhodes took another attempt at goal, but Aleshire saved the potential game-winner.

At the 2:53 mark of the second overtime, Shepherd was able to score the game-winning goal.

Junior goalkeeper Mitchell Thompson recorded one save for the Mountain Lions.

Wednesday marked the second time this season CU and Shepherd have played 1-0 overtime games.

For the game, Concord held edges in total shots (16-14), shots on goal (3-2) and corner kicks (9-7).

Concord will host West Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Anderson Field.
