Concord Set to Play West Virginia Wesleyan, Glenville State

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team will be seeking its first Mountain East Conference win when it travels to West Virginia Wesleyan 7:00 p.m. Friday and Glenville State 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

RECORDS
• Concord enters Friday with a record of 8-8 overall and 0-4 in MEC play.

• WVWC is 3-7 overall and 2-3 against league foes while Glenville State is 1-14 overall and 0-5 versus MEC competition.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• CU is coming off of a gut-wrenching five-set loss to UVa.-Wise Tuesday night.

• Senior outside hitter Brytni Willis tallied her eighth double-digit kill performance of the season after recording 19 kills against the Cavaliers. Willis was just one kill off her season-high of 20.

• Senior middle hitter Sarah Jones joined Willis with 10 or more kills by totaling 14 against UVa.-Wise.

• Jones and Willis have been among the MEC kill leaders all season and entering play Friday Jones is fourth in kills per set (3.4) while Willis is seventh (3.1).

• Jones has also tallied the seventh-best hitting percentage in the conference (.277).

• Also among the conference leaders in service aces per set is Willis and senior libero Amanda Walker who  sits eighth (.39) and ninth (.38), respectively.

• Senior setter Nikki McMillan has had at least 10 assists in five of her last six matches including 21 against UVa.-Wise.

• Walker needs four service aces to move past Holley Kimbrell for eighth all-time at Concord with 142.

• Additionally, Jones needs seven total blocks to surpass Katrina Street for fourth at Concord with 336 total blocks.

• CU ranks fifth in the MEC in total blocks per set with 148.

• Jones and freshman middle hitter Shea Hoffman have tallied the most blocks for CU as they have 41 and 29 respectively.

• Two other Mountain Lions have at least 20 blocks in freshman middle hitter Alexis Elliott (31) and sophomore middle hitter Lauren Richardson (24).
 
SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
• Erin Bond has the eighth-best hitting percentage in the MEC (.274) and is ninth in kills per set (2.9).

• Paulina Nottingham leads the Bobcats with 8.4 assists per set, ranking fifth in the conference.

• West Virginia Wesleyan is coming off a three-game victory over Glenville State Tuesday night.

SCOUTING GLENVILLE STATE
• Concord has won six straight matches against Glenville State dating back to the 2010 season.

• Kayla Lowers is the Pioneers leading attacker with 79 kills this season.

• Glenville State has 66 total blocks this season.

UP NEXT
Concord will play host to Notre Dame College October 10 in the first of nine straight home dates.
