ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University men's soccer team fell to the University of Charleston 5-1 Wednesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at Anderson Field.
Entering the contest Wednesday, Charleston (16-0-1, 11-0-1 MEC) was ranked number one by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) poll.
After the Mountain Lions (2-13-1, 2-10 MEC) held Charleston to just one goal in the first half, the Golden Eagles had an onslaught of four goals in the second half.
Freshman
Maximillian Simpson netted his second goal of the season and his second in as many games for the Maroon and Gray in the 85th minute.
During halftime of Wednesday's game, senior defender
Cole Cloonan and Russell were recognized during halftime for their service to the CU program. Cloonan leaves as the program's all-time leader in appearances with 68 while Russell recorded three career goals, including the game winner against Urbana Oct. 25.
The Mountain Lions will conclude their season at Marshall Nov. 8.
