Concord Beats Urbana, 2-0

Box Score URBANA, Ohio – Junior forward Kari Simon netted her eighth goal of the season and senior midfielder Sami Spertzel scored her second goal of the year as Concord beat Urbana 2-0 Tuesday afternoon at Urbana University Stadium.

CU improved to 5-6-4 with the win and moved its Mountain East Conference record to 3-5-4. Urbana fell to 2-9-3 and 1-8-3 in the league.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes of the game, Simon put the Mountain Lions ahead 1-0 with her team-leading seventh goal of the season during the 22nd minute. Less than three minutes, Simon had a hand in Concord's second goal as she assisted on Spertzel's goal put the Mountain Lions ahead 2-0.

Tuesday marked the third time this season Simon has had three or more points in a game.  

Coming off her career-high nine saves versus Wheeling Jesuit Saturday, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Lacie Geisel made five saves to record her third shutout of the season.

Geisel and the rest of the Mountain Lions defense did not allowed a goal to the Blue Knights this season over 200 minutes of play. The last time Concord shut out the same opponent in two straight meetings was when Concord defeated Pitt-Johnstown 1-0 during the 2010 season and by the same score in 2011.

Simon tied her season-high in shots on goal with four while senior back Abby Barber took a season-best three shots on goal. Sophomore forward Emily Cole had two shots on goal while sophomore back Olivia Reilly and Spertzell each had a single shot on goal.

For the game, Concord held advantages in total shots (18-14), shots on goal (11-5) and corner kicks (8-4).

With the win, the Mountain Lions keep their hopes alive for a conference playoff berth. Concord will go on the road Saturday to take on MEC-leading Notre Dame.
