Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team swept West Virginia State (25-16, 27-25, 25-15) Saturday afternoon at the Carter Center.
With the win, Concord improves to 13-11 overall and 3-7 in the Mountain East Conference while West Virginia State fell to 4-16 overall and 2-9 in league play. Â
The Mountain Lions were led by senior middle hitter
Sarah Jones who had 12 kills and seven blocks. Jones hit an impressive .435 while committing just two errors in 23 attack attempts.
Freshman setter
Casey Mandeville tallied a team-high 16 assists for the Mountain Lions, marking the ninth straight match she the Plain City, Ohio native has had 10 or more assists.
After CU coasted to a nine-point victory in game one, Concord fell behind 12-6 and trailed 20-16 in game two before roaring back to tie the set at 24 before winning 27-25. Several Mountain Lions had an influence in CU's comeback as freshman middle hitter

Shea Hoffman, Jones, Mandeville and senior outside hitter
Brytni Willis all had one kill over CU's final 11 points. Hoffman clinched the second set with one of her three blocks for the match.
Concord put away West Virginia State in the third set by only trailing once (2-1) and scoring 10 of the match's final 16 points.

Nikki McMillan finished with 15 assists while Willis had seven kills and 10 digs.
Next up for the Mountain Lions will be an MEC contest with West Liberty at the Carter Center Friday night at 5:00 p.m. The match will be Concord's "Pink" game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All fans are encouraged to wear pink.
