Concord Downed at Charleston

Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team was defeated by Charleston 2-0 Wednesday night at Schoenbaum Field in Mountain East Conference play.
With the loss, Concord is now 1-5-1 overall and 1-4 in league action. Meanwhile, the number three-ranked team in Division II improves to 9-0 overall and 5-0 against conference foes.

Neither team netted a goal in the first half as the game was scoreless after 45 minutes of play. Concord had two shots on goal by a tandem of freshman, in the first half by Royale Johnson and the second, a shot by Alex Rhodes, but both were saved by Charleston goalkeeper Justin Bryant.

Charleston added its first goal before CU was able to score a goal of its own with 11 minutes left in the game. The goal was scored by Junior Conor Branson, his fifth of the season.

Another goal was made with only five and a half minutes remaining on a penalty kick by freshman Will Roberts.

For the game, UC held advantages in total shots 24-4, shots on goal 10-2 and corner kicks 13-1. Junior goalkeeper Mitchell Thompson made 8 saves for Concord.

Concord will return to Anderson Field Saturday to play host to Notre Dame College. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
