MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• After dropping its last two games, Concord enters the West Liberty contest with an overall record of 5-5 and a MEC mark of 2-2. West Liberty is a perfect 8-0 on the season and 4-0 in league play. Wheeling Jesuit, which plays UVa.-Wise on Jan. 4, has won its last four games to push its record to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in MEC games.
• Three of CU's five losses have been by fewer than 10 points including two-point and three-point defeats.
• Through 10 games, the Mountain Lions are averaging 74.8 points per game (ppg) while allowing 75.6 ppg. As a team, Concord ranks second in the MEC in free throw shooting (73.3 percent) and fourth in three-point shooting (36.7 percent).
• CU's already impressive foul shooting improves to 87.5 percent (28-32) in the final three minutes of games.
• Concord is 4-1 this season when leading at halftime.
• Leading the way for the Mountain Lions over the opening part of the year has been junior guard
Mike Boyd, who is averaging 14.4 ppg to go with team-highs in field goal shooting percentage (54.1), assists per game (4.5) and minutes played (34.3 per game).
• Boyd, who is also shooting 76.7 percent from the foul line and averaging 1.2 steals per game, needs just 17 more assists to become the 13th player in Mountain Lion history with at least 300 career assists.
• Sophomore forward
Terry Hopewell ranks second in the MEC in total blocks (16) and third in blocks per game (1.6). Hopewell also ranks second for Concord in rebounding (3.1 per game) while scoring 7.6 ppg on 51.7 percent shooting from the field.
• Freshman guard
B.J. Hamlet has provided Concord with immediate offense since making his debut four games into the season. After his first six collegiate games, Hamlet is averaging 15.0 ppg thanks in no small part to his stroke from long range where he has connected on 21-of-42 three-point attempts.
• Hamlet has been held to under 14 points in a game just once, a five-point showing vs. W. Va. Wesleyan.
• Sophomore forward
Nick Moyer leads the Mountain Lions in both rebounding (5.2 per game) and steals (1.3 per game).
• The trio of Boyd, Hopewell and Moyer have started all 10 of Concord's games this season.
• Since starting the season relatively quietly, sophomore guard
Cam Shannon has bounced back to average 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals over Concord's last four games.
• One constant for Shannon this season has been his spot-on foul shooting. The Beckley, W. Va. native has made 81.8 percent (18-of-22) of his attempts from the charity stripe.
• Also helping to shoulder the offensive load early on for Concord is junior guard A.J. Williams, who is one of three CU players to average more than 10 points per game at 10.8 ppg.
• Williams, a more than capable foul shooter at 76.9 percent (20-for-26), has also been one of CU's top finishers around the rim.
• Wins over the Hilltoppers and Cardinals would snap a pair of losing streaks for Concord. CU has dropped seven straight to West Liberty and two in a row against Wheeling Jesuit.
A CONCORD WIN WOULD…
• A win over West Liberty would be Concord's first victory over the Hilltoppers since the 2007-08 season when Concord bested WLU 102-99 in Athens.
• A win over West Liberty would even the all-time series between the two schools at 21-21.
• A win over Wheeling Jesuit would be CU's third in five games vs. WJU.
