CLARION, Pa.- The Concord University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday on day two of the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament, losing to Edibnoro, 3-1, and Clarion, 3-0. The losses drop Concord's record to 1-2 on the young season.
Concord won the opening set against Edinboro, 25-22, but the Fighting Scots rebounded to rattle off three consecutive set wins 25-16, 25-22 and 25-23. Clarion swept the Mountain Lions in the night cap 25-15, 25-16 and 25-21.
The Mountain Lions were led on the day by junior middle hitter
Sarah Jones, who recorded team-highs of seven kills against Edinboro and eight kills vs. Clarion. Jones also tallied two blocks in both matches.
Junior outside hitter
Brytni Willis, who was named to the all-tournament team, checked in on Saturday with six kills and 15 digs against Edinboro before closing her weekend with seven kills, nine digs and one ace in CU's match against Clarion.
Sophomore setter
Amanda Walker produced the Maroon and Gray's first double-double of the season with an 11-kill, 14-dig effort against Edinboro. Fellow setter
Whytni Willis, a junior, had a career-best 12 assists vs. Edinboro.
Freshman middle hitter
Lauren Richardson continue to pay immediate dividends for Concord, as the Lake Wylie, S.C. alum had six blocks on the day with three rejections in each match. Richardson also poured in five kills against Edinboro.
The Mountain Lions have the week off before traveling to Bristol, Tenn. to take part in the King University Invitational Sept. 13-14. CU will play North Greenville, Lees-McRae, Southern Wesleyan and King at the Invite.
