MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• After going seven straight season with a sub .400 winning percentage, CU has produced back-to-back years with respective winning percentages of .429 (2011) and .441 (2012).
• Head coach
Kate Southcott, now in her fifth season, continues to rebuild a program that had won just 26 matches prior to her arrival. In her time at CU, Southcott has guided the Mountain Lions to 50 wins and improved winning percentages for three straight seasons.
• A winning-season by Concord would be the program's first since CU went 14-12 in 2003.
• The Mountain Lions were predicted to finish in seventh place this season in Mountain East Conference.
• The 2013 edition of the Mountain Lions features an experienced group that has seen the core of the team play together over the past two seasons.
• A six-woman junior class of
Sarah Jones,
Nikki McMillan,
Lindsey Smith,
Amanda Walker,
Brytni Willis and
Whytni Willis combined with seniors
Rebecca Lovejoy,
Allie Pennington and
Jasmin Sutherland give Concord one of its most experienced teams in years.
• CU returns four of its top five leaders in kills from a season ago in Jones (367),
Brytni Willis (263), Sutherland (178) and Lovejoy (108).
• Sutherland and Jones were also two of CU's top defensive forces last year; Sutherland ranked first in blocks at 111 with Jones placing second at 92 blocks.
• The setting duo of Walker and McMillan is also in place for another season. As sophomores in 2012, McMillan tallied 477 assists with Walker close behind at 473. McMillan and Walker also combined for 52 aces.
• Smith came just shy of setting a Concord single-season record with 440 digs last season. In addition to her season-high dig total, Smith also led Concord in aces with 43.
• New to the program in 2013 are freshmen
Abbey Cover,
Felicia Huerta,
Nicci Hutzell and
Lauren Richardson.
Megan Fisher gives CU a fifth freshman after redshirting as a true freshman in 2012.
• Dating back to last season, Jones will bring a streak of four consecutive matches with at least four blocks into Concord's season-opener against Goldey-Beacom.
• Concord was 14-5 when winning the first set last season and 13-4 when winning the second set.
• Several current Mountain Lions' names can already be found in Concord's career record books. Jones ranks sixth in kills (611) and tied for eighth in blocks (211). Sutherland sits seventh in blocks (224). McMillan and Walker rank seventh and ninth in assists with 828 and 490, respectively.
• Concord's matches against Clarion and Goldey-Beacom will be the first in program history. The Mountain Lions have played Edinboro once, a 3-0 loss in 2010.
