Greensboro, N.C.--With five runners in the top 20, the Concord University men's cross country team won the Division II portion of the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational Saturday afternoon.
For the second consecutive weekend, junior
Jordan Weitzel was the top finisher for the Mountain Lions as he placed 7th and was third in Division II with a time of 27:24.
Sophomore
Jacob Doss (27:48) and freshman
Brandon Lee (27:51) were 10th and 11th overall and fifth and sixth in Division II. Another sophomore-freshman duo of
Jake Munsey (28:01) and
Cimarron Nicely (28:01) followed each other to 15th and 16th place finishes while placing 10th and 11th in Division II.
Sophomore
Cody Honaker (29:01) and freshman
Tony Tredway (29:51 finished 25th and 30th overall and 15th and 18th in Division II.
Once again, CU runners were packed together as just 37 second separated Weitzel and the fifth runner Nicely. "The guys went out smart and had a tight pack," head coach Mike Cox said. "If I could have pictured how today would have gone, this is exactly what I was looking for.
"Just about everybody that competed today ran some sort of (personal record) whether it was a course PR, season PR or lifetime PR," he continued.
The Mountain Lions will next compete at the Concord Invitation on October 9 at Camp Creek State Park.
