Volleyball Closes Strong at LHU Classic

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Concord University volleyball team finished out its time at the LHU Classic Saturday by defeating Dominican, 3-0, and losing to the University of Sciences, 3-0. The Mountain Lions were 2-2 for the weekend.

Saturday's split sends Concord's overall record on the season to 7-6. The Mountain Lions will play at King in a non-conference match on Wednesday before opening up Mountain East Conference competition with home contests vs. Shepherd and Fairmont State on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

All three sets in CU's loss against the University of Sciences were narrow defeats with UOS claiming 25-19, 25-20, 25-22 wins. The loss did little to deter the Mountain Lions, who came back to dominate its match against Dominican 25-25-18, 25-11, 25-7.

Concord's match against the University of Sciences was highlighted by 11 kills from junior Sarah Jones and a seven-kill five-block effort from senior Jasmin Sutherland. Senior Rebecca Lovejoy chipped in four kills and three blocks in the defeat as well.

The Mountain Lions posted an impressive .325 attack percentage in its triumph over Dominican as junior Brytni Willis leading the way with a season-high 15 kills. For the match, Willis registered a .425 attack percentage.

In addition to its attack, Concord's serving game was also in top form vs. Dominican. CU tallied a total of 10 aces led by three from Jones, two from Willis, two from junior Amanda Walker, and one each from junior Lindsey Smith, junior Nikki McMillan and freshman Felicia Huerta.

McMillan also posted match-highs of 16 assists and 14 digs for her first double-double of the season.

Other contributors to Concord's victory were Sutherland (eight kills and four blocks), Jones (seven kills) and Lovejoy (five kills).

Concord's non-conference contest against King on Tuesday is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
