WEST LIBERTY,
W.Va.--The Concord University women's soccer team picked up a road victory on Saturday afternoon against Mountain East Conference opponent West Liberty by a score of 2-1.
All three goals in the game were scored in the match's first 11 minutes as Concord struck with two goals just 22 seconds apart from each other.
Sophomore
Kari Simon was the first CU player to find the back of the net at the 3:00 mark. It was the fourth goal of the season for Simon. Teammate
Abby Barber wasted no time in extending the Mountain Lions' lead at the 3:22 mark of the first half. Barber's goal was her third goal on the year.
"The girls played well today considering the wet conditions," head coach Stefani Workman said. "I'm really proud of the way we came out in the first half. For us to be able to score two quick goals at the beginning of the game really gives us an advantage and good mental edge.
"Moving forward I would like us to put teams away by finishing our opportunities in front of the net," she continued. "Three points on the road any coach will take."
Goalkeeper
Kristin Twomey earned her third win of the year as she stopped five shots on the day.
CU picked up the victory despite being outshot by the Hilltoppers 18-8. West Liberty also held the advantage with shots on goal 6-4. However, Concord held the edge in corner kicks 3-2.
Barber had two shots on goal while Simon and freshman
Emily Cole had one apiece.
Concord improves to 3-2-1 on the year and 1-1-1 in MEC play.
Next up for the Mountain Lions will be another road game against conference foe Urbana on September 24. Kickoff is slated 3:00 p.m.Â
