Men’s Soccer Begins Four Game Road Trip

ATHENS, W. Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team is set to embark on a season-long four-game road trip beginning this week at Shepherd 3:00 p.m. Wednesday and at West Virginia Tech 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
Concord went 1-1-0 last week, defeating Virginia Intermont 2-0 and losing 2-1 in overtime to West Virginia Wesleyan. On the season, Concord is 2-2 overall and 0-1 in Mountain East Conference competition.

SCOUTING CONCORD
Sophomore back Matheus Morgan was named the Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Week after assisting on two goals last week. In what were the first two games of his CU career, Morgan tallied assists in each contest.

Sophomore midfielder Ryan Forde continues to be a dominant force offensively for Concord. Forde has now scored four goals on the season after adding goals against both Virginia Intermont and West Virginia Wesleyan. Forde leads the conference in total points (eight), goals scored and game-winning goals (two).

Forde already needs just four more goals this year to match the highest goal output by a CU player in the past six seasons. Former Concord standout Ivan Deyanov recorded eight-goal years in 2010 and 2011.

Two other Concord players have scored goals this season. Senior midfielder Sebastian Escobar tallied his third career goal with a strike against Virginia Intermont while sophomore defender Patrick Ebbs collected the first goal of his college career in CU's season-opening win against Ferrum.

In addition to Forde, Escobar, Ebbs, Morgan and sophomore Alex Williams (two assists) one other Mountain Lion has posted a point so far. Senior midfielder Tyler Farrar notched an assist vs. Ferrum. Farrar's team-long consecutive games played streak now stands at 33 games.

Sophomore goalie Mitchell Thompson has started all four of Concord's games and has been on the field for 307 out of a possible 368 minutes. Thompson (2-2) has made 18 saves (.783) with a goals against average of 1.47. Thompson leads the conference in saves and saves per game.

SCOUTING SHEPHERD
Shepherd enters Wednesday's contest 1-3 overall and 0-1 in MEC play. Most recently, the Rams dropped a 3-0 decision against Charleston. As a team, Shepherd has been outscored 11-6 on the season.

The Rams are led by Kyle Ransom, who has two goals and one assist in four games. Kevin Doyle, Griffin Frazier, Lawrence Bass and Fernand Feukeu have all scored one goal each. Three different players have saw time at goalie for Shepherd with David Leonard seeing the majority of the action. Leonard is 1-2 with one shutout, 12 saves (.600) and a GAA of 2.76.

SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA TECH
The Golden Bears have put together an impressive record of 6-1-1 to start the season. West Virginia Tech has scored four or more goals in a game four times. For the year, the Golden Bears have totaled 41 goals with Rafael Murillo and Miller Glenroy tied for the team lead at five goals each.
