ATHENS, W. Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime to West Virginia Wesleyan Sunday at Anderson Field in CU's first Mountain East Conference contest.
The Mountain Lions (2-2-0, 0-1-0 MEC) allowed a goal midway through the first half before scoring the equalizer with under a minute to play in the opening period. However, after a scoreless second half the Bobcats (2-1-1, 1-0-0 MEC) were able to escape Athens with a win thanks to a goal eight minutes into overtime.
Trailing 1-0 after a Bobcat goal by Joe Ferraracci at 22:54, the Mountain Lions were able to regroup and even the score at 1-1 going into the break when sophomore
Matheus Morgan placed a free kick from the right side perfectly into sophomore
Ryan Forde, who finished off the chance with a header into the back of the net.
The score was Forde's MEC-best fourth of the season while Morgan's assist was his second in as many games. Forde has now produced goals in three out of Concord's four games this season.
The second half saw Concord fend off nine West Virginia Wesleyan shots, but unable to convert any of its own four shots into goals as the game remained tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation.
Play was even through the opening eight minutes of overtime, but Alexzandre Zidani was able to shift momentum into the Bobcats' favor when he gave WVW the crucial 2-1 lead by connecting on the game-winning goal at 98:14

For the game Wesleyan held the advantage over Concord in both shots (22-9) and corners (9-2).
The Mountain Lions will look to return to their winning ways 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Shepherd.
