Volleyball Drops Matches to Southern Wesleyan and King

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Concord University volleyball team ended its weekend at the King University Invitational with a pair of 3-0 losses Saturday to Southern Wesleyan and King.

Concord (3-4) lost to Wesleyan to begin the day 25-12, 25-18 and 25-18 before dropping the final match of the invitational to King 25-18, 25-22, 25-20. On Friday, Concord defeated North Greenville and Lees-McRae to give CU a .500 mark of 2-2 for the weekend.

In its match against Southern Wesleyan, Concord was led by junior Sarah Jones' 11 kills, 10 digs and two blocks. For the match, Jones totaled an attack percentage of .435. Junior Brytni Willis and senior Rebecca Lovejoy added six and four kills each against Wesleyan while freshman Lauren Richardson posted a season-high seven blocks (two solo / five assisted).

Despite a .092 hitting percentage, the Mountain Lions were able to keep the score close against King University in the nightcap thanks in part to 11 kills from Willis.

Richardson, Willis and senior Jasmin Sutherland came away with two blocks apiece vs. the Tornado's and junior Nikki McMillan served a team-best two aces while matching teammate Amanda Walker for the Concord lead in assists with eight. However, the Mountain Lions were unable to overcome 11 King aces in the defeat.

Concord will return to action when it hosts Bluefield State and West Virginia Tech in a triangular on Sept. 18 in the Carter Center.
