ATHENS, W.Va.--The Concord University men's soccer team continued its home stand Wednesday afternoon at Anderson Field as they matched up against non-conference foe Virginia Intermont. CU improved to 2-1-0 this season with a 2-0 win over the Cobras.

Less than three minutes into the match, sophomore Alex Williams sent a free kick into the box where it found Ryan Forde's head and eventually the back of the net. The goal by Forde was his third of the season while Williams' assist was his second of the year.

For the rest of the first half, the teams jockeyed for possession of the ball and Concord headed into the break with the one goal advantage..

In the 75th minute of the game, some fancy dribbling by freshman Matheus Morgan set up Sebastian Escobar's first goal of the season.

Goalkeepers Mitchell Thompson and Trevor Hoxworth both saw action with each man playing one half. Thompson, who started, picked up his second win of the season while making one save.

For the game, both teams got off 10 shots, but the Mountain Lions had seven shots on goal compared to one for Virginia Intermont.

Escobar and Forde each had two shots on goal, while Tyler Harris, Deni Deyanov and Isaac Jordan had one apiece.

Next up for Concord will be the Mountain East Conference opener against West Virginia Wesleyan at home. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday at Anderson Field.
