MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Junior back
Abby Barber has gotten off to a fantastic start this season, scoring two goals against Converse and assisting on another vs. West Virginia Tech. For her efforts, Barber was named the first Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
• After being held scoreless against Converse, sophomore forward
Kari Simon came back to produce the second two-score game of her career with a pair of goals against West Virginia Tech.
• The Mountain Lions have used different goalies in each of their first two matches. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Wasylko started the season-opener and stopped five shots in the loss while freshman
Kristin Twomey made two saves and earned the first victory of her collegiate career with the shutout of West Virginia Tech.
• Six out of Barber's first eight shots have been on goal. Other Mountain Lions with multiple shots on goal include sophomore midfielder
Chloe Barber (three), Simon (two) and freshman forward
Emily Cole (two).
• Cole is tied with Barber for the team-lead in total shots with eight.
• After serving as a reserve for the last three seasons, midfielder
Melissa Woo Ling, who is the Mountain Lions' active leader with 38 games played, has started the first two contests of the season.
• Junior midfielder
Sami Spertzel and junior back
Paris Wood are the only other two Concord players to have played in at least 30 career games at 37 and 35, respectively. Spertzel has played in and started Concord's last 15 games.
• Mountain Lion freshmen Cole, back
Olivia Reilly and back
Kiana Brown have all found themselves in the starting lineup in Concord's first two matches.
• Fellow freshmen Twomey (one game) midfielder
Brenda Arriaza (two games), forward
Margot Provencher (two games), midfielder
Sara van den Akker (two games) and back
Cassidy Maynard (one game) have also saw early action.
• Concord comes into its game at King holding a 2-1 advantage over the Tornado's in the all-time series. The two teams last met in 2012, a 1-0 victory for the Mountain Lions.
• The Mountain Lions were led to the victory by the now-graduated
Erika Hoff, who scored the game-winning goal early in the second half. Wasylko stopped two shots in the win.
• King is winless in two games this season, dropping contests at Brevard, 3-1, and Bluefield College, 2-1. King has been paced with goals by Rayna Spears and Shalisa Barnett.
• Since 2000, West Virginia Wesleyan holds a record of 12-3-2 over the Mountain Lions. Concord lost twice to the Bobcats last season, including a 2-0 defeat in the semifinals of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
• Wesleyan has lost its only contest of the year, a 1-0 loss at Walsh.
A WIN WOULD
• A win over King would give Concord a 2-1 start for the first time since the 2009 season when the Mountain Lions defeated Bluefield College and Roanoke College while losing to Northern Kentucky to begin the year.
• A win over West Virginia Wesleyan would be Concord's first since beating the Bobcats 1-0 on Oct. 4, 2006 in Athens, W. Va. and also snap a nine-match winless streak (0-8-1).
• A win over West Virginia Wesleyan would give Concord its first win in a conference opener since the Mountain Lions defeated Alderson-Broaddus 3-2 in 2009.
