\BLUEFIELD, W. Va. – Sophomore
Ryan Johnston drove in three runs as the Concord University baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Bluefield State with a 13-4 victory Saturday.
The Mountain Lions never trailed on the day thanks to a four-run first inning that was aided by at least one run in each of the next four innings including a five-run fifth inning in the nine-run victory.
Johnston drove in his three runs off of a 3-for-5 day that included three runs scored, a double and one walk. Junior
Bret Blevins and freshman
Andrew Seigel both recorded three-hit days with a stolen base each.
Seniors
Jacob Mays and
Josh Wenger both had two-hit games as well with Wenger plating two runs on a two-run double in the first inning. Senior
Joey Miller was Concord's fourth player to drive in multiple runs with a pair RBI thanks to a two-run single in the fifth inning.
The Mountain Lions will now look for its second West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in the last three years starting Wednesday in the conference tournament. Opponents and game times are yet to be determined.
