Softball Ready to Host Home Opener Saturday

ATHENS, W. Va. – After opening the year with 31 consecutive games on the road, the Concord University softball team will host its first home games of the season this weekend.

CU will face fellow WVIAC members Alderson-Broaddus College Saturday followed by Fairmont State University on Sunday at the Concord Softball Field.

Records
The Mountain Lions split a pair of games on Wednesday against West Virginia Wesleyan and are 14-17 overall and 2-4 in league play. Concord was the first WVIAC school to defeat the Bobcats this season.

The Battlers are 9-10 overall and 1-1 in WVIAC play. Fairmont State holds an overall record of 13-6 and is 3-1 in conference competition.

All-Time Series
Concord is 6-20 since the 1995 season against Alderson-Broaddus and 13-20 vs. Fairmont State. CU split a pair of games against A-B and lost twice to FSU a season ago.

CU will continue conference play on Wednesday, April 10 at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, W. Va. The Mountain Lions then head to Shepherdstown, W. Va. for a weekend series at Shepherd.

Scouting Concord
• Senior Becca Gleason, sophomore Jessica Seymour and sophomore Hayley Wade all enter the weekend on four-game hitting streaks.

• Gleason leads the WVIAC in runs scored (26) and hits (41) in addition to batting a team-high .419 on the year with four triples, two home runs, eight stolen bases and 18 RBI. Her on-base percentage of .457 is also a team-best.

• Seymour, who has two home runs in Concord's last three games, is hitting .348 with 25 runs and 10 stolen bases.

• Wade, who has improved her batting average by nearly 30 points since March 20, has five hits in four games and ranks fourth for Concord with 15 RBI this season.

• Concord's top run producers this year have been freshman Alyssa Morris and sophomore Lacey McDougall. Morris is second in the WVIAC in both home runs (five) and RBI (23) while batting .340 with .585 slugging percentage.

• McDougall's has belted a Mountain Lion high eight doubles while also driving in 20 runs on 36 hits.

• McDougall is also 7-8 with a 3.13 ERA and 49 strikeouts on the year as one of Concord's primary pitchers. She has allowed no more than two runs in any of her last three starts. Opponents are batting .270 vs. McDougall.

• In her last 18.1 innings pitched, senior Stephanie Harper has allowed just eight runs. On the year, Harper is 3-1 with a 3.76 ERA and 18 strikeouts. At the plate, Harper is batting .330 with 11 runs and nine RBI.

• Junior Rachael Mack is batting .421 with runners on base, trailing only Gleason's .463 average for the team lead.

• As a team, Concord's offense leads the WVIAC in batting average (.311), runs scored (174), hits (263), triples (11), RBI (141). The Mountain Lions' pitchers lead the league in strikeouts (94).

• CU is 8-1 this year when leading after four innings.
