Softball Heads South for Eight Games at NCS Invite

ATHENS, W. Va. - After being idle for two weeks, the Concord University softball team will jump back into action with eight games in four days at the 2013 National Collegiate Sports Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. starting with a doubleheader against Tusculum College and Glenville State College Monday, March 11.

Concord will then play Spalding University (Noon) and Tusculum (7:30 p.m.) for a second time on Tuesday followed by Cairn University (2:30 p.m.) and Eureka College (5:00 p.m.) on Wednesday. The Mountain Lions close out the Invitational on Thursday in a rematch against Eureka (Noon) as well as a game against Principia (2:30 p.m.).

The game against fellow West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member Glenville State will be treated as a non-conference contest.

Records
The Mountain Lions enter next week's games 5-8 overall this season.

Tusculum is 6-11 while Glenville State and Spalding are both 1-1. Cairn, Eureka and Principia have yet to play a game this season.

The All-Time Series
Since 1995, Concord is 3-13 against Glenville State. The Mountain Lions have not played its other five opponents at the NCSI.

Up Next
Concord will play 10 consecutive road games beginning with a doubleheader at Lees-McRae on March 19. The Mountain Lions open up its home schedule April 6 vs. Alderson-Broaddus.

Scouting Concord
• Senior Becca Gleason and sophomore Lacey McDougall currently lead the Mountain Lions in batting average at .459 and .391, respectively. The duo also ranks first and second in runs scored (Gleason with ten and McDougall with nine).

• McDougall has been Concord's top pitcher through the opening part of the season. She is 4-4 with a 3.50 ERA and one shutout.

• Freshman Alyssa Morris, who is enjoying a six-game hitting streak, has a team-high three home runs and 13 RBI.

• Morris is batting .563 (9-for-16) with runners in scoring position and has four multi-RBI games.

• Sophomore Jessica Seymour has stolen a team-best four bases in addition to batting .343.

• Senior Stephanie Harper, who ranks second in CU history in doubles and fifth in RBI, has improved her batting average 64 points in the last six games from .304 to .368.

• Sophomore Hayley Wade has six hits in her last 11 at-bats.

• Junior Rachael Mack has started all 13 games for the Mountain Lions and has swiped three stolen bases, ranking second for CU. Mack is also tied for second in runs scored per game with Morris and McDougall at 0.69.

• Mack has started five games in the circle for the Mountain Lions. In 20 innings pitched, Mack is 1-4 with nine strikeouts and a 7.70 ERA.

• As a team, Concord is currently batting .342 compared to its counterparts' .316 average.

• Concord is 4-2 this season when out hitting opponents and 3-1 when holding opponents to between three and five runs.
