Concord Takes Season-Long Win Streak to Glenville

ATHENS, W. Va. – In the midst of a season-long four-game winning streak, the Concord University men's basketball continues its sprint towards the postseason with its final two regular-season games of the year at Glenville State Thursday and vs. Bluefield State Saturday.

Records
• Concord's four-game winning streak has pushed its record to 15-9 overall and 11-9 in the WVIAC.

• If Mountain Lions win their final two games of the regular season, they will tie CU's 2011-12 and 2006-07 squads for the most wins for the program since 2003-04.

• Two more wins to close out the regular season would also give Concord a .654 winning percentage, the best for CU since 1991-92.

• Glenville State has lost its last three games, dropping the Pioneers' record to 11-14 overall and 7-12 in league play.

Series
• Concord has won six of the last 10 games vs. GSC and is 23-13 vs. the Pioneers since the 1993-94 season.

• The Mountain Lions won at Glenville State earlier this season behind 13 points from sophomore guard Thomas Brown.

Scouting Concord
• Concord's seeding for the WVIAC Tournament will come down to the final games of the season; CU, Shepherd, Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown are all within one game of each other in the WVIAC standings.

• Concord has the easiest path to hosting a first round game in the WVIAC Tournament amongst the four schools. Its remaining opponents have a combined winning percentage of just .250 in league play compared to the final opponents of Shepherd (.400), Seton Hill (.650) and Pitt-Johnstown (.725). Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown play each other on Feb. 23.

• Senior forward Damien Tunstalle is just 47 points away from 1,000 for his career and has seemingly saved his best performances for the final games of his CU career.

• In the last four games, Tunstalle is averaging 20.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 44.1% (26-for-59) from the field and 43.9% (18-for-41) from three-point range.

• Sophomore forward Jordan Davis is also ending the season on a high-note. Davis, who has double-doubles in two of Concord's last three games, has scored 16.0 points and grabbed 9.6 rebounds per game in the last three contests.

• Davis ranks third in the WVIAC in field goal percentage (60.5%) and has made 17 of his last 27 field goal attempts.

• Sophomore guard Mike Boyd's 2.39 assist/turnover ratio leads the WVIAC. He also ranks eighth in assists at 4.38 per game.

• Boyd scored 18 points and passed out eight assists in Concord's win vs. WV State on Monday.

• Freshman forward Nick Moyer has eight steals in the last three games.

• Tunstalle, guard Eric Bailey and forward Gentry Shrewsbury will be playing in their final regular season games this weekend. The trio has been a part of the rejuvenation of the program. Since going 6-22 as freshman, the senior class has helped improve Concord's record in each of the next three seasons.

• Concord is 12-3 this season when out rebounding its opponent.

• The Mountain Lions are shooting 80.2 percent (101-126) from the foul line in the final three minutes of games this year.

Scouting Glenville State
As a team, the Pioneers have shot 46.1 percent from the field this season, the sixth-best percentage in the WVIAC.

Glenville's Jamel Morris is the conference's fifth-leading scorer at 19.9 points per game. Morris scored 16 points vs. Concord earlier in the year. Lamar Mallory shoulder's GSC's inside responsibilities. On the year, Mallory has nearly averages a double-double at 14.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Joe Ballard's 68.7 field goal percentage leads the league.

The Coaches
Former Concord standout Kent McBride is in his second season in charge of the Mountain Lion program. He has tallied a record of 32-21 in his time in Athens. McBride already ranks eighth all-time in wins by a Concord coach despite not even having coached for two full seasons.

The Pioneers are coached by Stephen Dye, who is 31-75 for his career at Glenville State.

After Concord's game at Glenville State Thursday, the Mountain Lions will return home to host Bluefield State 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Concord will then play in a first round WVIAC Tournament game Tuesday, Feb. 26 against an opponent to be determined and at a site that is still to be determined.
