BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Concord University men's basketball team shot 48.1 percent from the field and sophomore guard Cam Shannon scored a career-high 18 points, but it wasn't quite enough as West Virginia Wesleyan made 12 three-pointers on its way to an 81-65 victory over the Mountain Lions Saturday after noon at Rockefeller Arena.

Concord (5-4, 2-2 Mountain East Conference) held a 6-5 advantage two minutes into the first half before the Bobcats (5-4, 2-2 MEC) went on a 25-7 run over the following eight minutes to open up a commanding 30-12 lead it would never relinquish.

The Mountain Lions managed to trim the 18-point deficit to just six points at 49-43 with 14:41 to play in the second half, but Wesleyan immediately countered with a 13-0 run that ended any hopes of CU comeback.

Shannon led Concord with his career-best day by shooting 6-for-9 from the field overall, 2-for-4 from three-point range and 4-for-6 from the foul line. In addition to his scoring output, Shannon also grabbed a team-high five rebounds and passed out two assists.

Junior guards Mike Boyd and A.J. Williams both finished in double figures as well with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while sophomore forward Nick Moyer tied Shannon for a team-best five rebounds.

Concord's shooting performance of 25-for-52 from the field was its fourth-best effort of the season. CU also committed just 12 turnovers, one off of its season-low.

West Virginia Wesleyan was led to the victory by Brett Ervin, who scored 17 points thanks in part to five three-pointers. As a team, the Bobcats went 12-for-28 from long range.

The Mountain Lions will look to return to their winning ways when they step out of conference for the final time in 2013-14 to play at Bluefield State on Dec. 16. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
