ATHENS, W. Va. – The Concord University volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak by defeating West Virginia State University, 3-0, Friday night at the Carter Center in a crucial Mountain East Conference contest.
Concord earned the three-set victory by closing strong each game. CU finished off its 25-11 opening-set win with an 11-1 run then proceeded to close out the second set on an 8-2 spurt to record the 25-17 victory. The third set saw the Maroon and Gray score five of the sets final seven points for the match-clinching 25-23 win.
The victory evens the Mountain Lions' record at 14-14 on the season while improving their MEC record to 6-7. The Yellow Jackets drop to 9-14 overall and 5-8 in league play. With three matches remaining in the regular season, Concord finds itself ranked seventh in the conference standings and in great position to host an opening-round contest in the upcoming MEC Tournament.

Nikki McMillan tallied her seventh double-double of the year off of a match-high 15 assists and 10 digs. In addition to her double-double, McMillan also served two aces. For the match, Concord totaled seven aces off of three from senior
Allie Pennington, two from
Brytni Willis and McMillan's aforementioned two.
As a team, Concord hit a respectable .225 while holding West Virginia State to an attack percentage of just .009.
Prior to the match, Concord's senior class of Pennington, Sutherland and middle hitter
Rebecca Lovejoy were recognized for their contributions to the program throughout their careers.
Concord will look to make it a perfect weekend with a victory over Charleston 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Carter Center. Earlier in the season Charleston defeated CU 3-0.
