ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team will begin Mountain East Conference play with a pair of home games against Notre Dame Saturday and Urbana on Monday.

The Mountain Lions will tip-off against Notre Dame at 2:00 p.m., while Monday's game time is set for 1:00 p.m.

RECORDS AND STANDINGS
CU will enter the weekend with a record of 2-1. The Mountain Lions defeated Mercer County rival Bluefield State Monday night 72-59 at home before going on the road Thursday and picking a victory against Davis & Elkins, 82-70.

In Thursday's contest junior forward Andrea Bertrand recorded her first double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Fellow junior forward Rachel Artrip scored 20 points against Bluefield State to propel CU to the win.

Notre Dame will come into the Carter Center having played just one game on the season. The Falcons collected a 90-48 win over Ohio Christian Tuesday night.

Urbana will have played one conference game by the time they arrive in Athens Monday afternoon. Urbana will open up MEC competition against UVa.-Wise Saturday.

The Blue Knights have a record of 1-1 entering the weekend as they knocked off Slipper Rock to open the season before losing to Edinboro Tuesday.

MOUNTAIN LIONS NOTES

• Concord will be seeking to win their third straight conference opener.

• Against Bluefield State, CU was able to shoot 47.2 percent from the field.

• In Monday's game junior guard Ashley Brown had a career night

• The Hinton, W.Va.-native played a career-high 22 minutes while scoring six points and six rebounds, which were also career highs.

• The Mountain Lions got another boost off the bench against the Lady Blues with freshman center Alley Odell scoring seven points and going 3-of-4 from the field in eight minutes of action.

• Juniors Sissy Wagner and Bertrand combined to go 13-of-17 from the foul line against Bluefield State.

• Through three games, Wagner has 19 assists and an assist-turnover ratio of 2.71

• Last year, Wagner led all of Division II women's basket in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.81.

•After going scoreless against Lincoln Memorial in the season opener, Artrip found her stroke against Bluefield State as she poured in 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.

• Five different Mountain Lions (Bertrand, Brown, senior center Sammi Webster, Atrip and Wagner) pulled down at least five rebounds on Monday night.

• Kestner enjoyed a career night against Davis & Elkins Thursday as she poured in a career high 17 points in the Mountain Lions 82-70 win.

• For the first time this season, all five CU starters were in double figures scoring agasinst Davis & Elkins.

• The last time the Mountain Lions had five players score in double figures was at home against West Virginia State last season.

• To start the season, Bertrand and Wagner have scored in double figures in each game. Concord has forced all three oppositions into at least 15 turnovers.

• With wins on both Saturday and Monday, the Mountain Lions would start the home slate 3-0 for the second time in three seasons.

• Two wins would also mean a 2-0 start to conference play for the third time in four seasons.

• So far this season, CU has outscored its opponents by 18.0 points per game in the paint.

• In Thursday's matchup with D&E, Concord only trailed for the first minute of the game before taking control and leading by as much as 14 in the second half.

• The Mountain Lions hit the 80-point plateau in the 82-70 win Thursday night for the first time since last year's home meeting with West Virginia State.

• With wins against Bluefield State and Davis & Elkins, coach Kenny Osborne improves to 24-7 combined against those teams.

• Notre Dame head coach Katie Hine is no stranger to the Mountain East Conference as she played and coached at Wheeling Jesuit.
