ATHENS, W. Va. - The Concord University women's basketball team will kick off its 2013-14 season on Wednesday night in a non-conference tilt at Lincoln Memorial University Harrogate, Tenn.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Coach
Kenny Osborne begins his 13th season at Concord where he owns a 190-180 record. He will welcome back seven returning players as well as 10 newcomers
• Concord is 0-2 all-time against Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters defeated Concord 60-55 at the Carter Center last season. The other meeting came in December 2003, a 63-58 LMU victory
• The Mountain Lions were recently picked to finish in seventh place in the Mountain East Conference this season in the league's preseason coaches poll.
• Sophomore guard
Sissy Wagner will be relied on to execute CU's offense. She led the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.81 a season ago. Wagner played an all-around stellar game against Lincoln Memorial last season with nine points, eight rebounds and six assists.
• Junior forward
Andrea Bertrand will return to the Concord lineup after only playing four games last year due to injury.
• In those four games, Bertrand averaged 18.0 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per contest
• Also, returning to the rotation for the Mountain Lions to provide leadership on the defensive end of the floor will be junior guard
Ashley Brown
• Brown is one of five players that was on the 2011-12 team which set a school-record for wins with 23 and made the semifinals of the WVIAC tournament
• Junior forward
Jacqueline Kestner recorded six double-doubles last year and averaged a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game.
• Freshman guard
Alexis Lowery will begin her collegiate career on Wednesday playing just 61 miles away from her hometown of Dandridge, Tenn.
• Junior forward
Rachel Artrip scored in double digits in 15 of the team's 29 games last season. She is CU's top-returning scorer from a season ago at 11.4 ppg.
• Last year against Lincoln Memorial Artrip scored 12 points
• Sophomore guard
Leslie Mack, who was a top reserve as freshman in 2012-13, shot 81 percent (34-for-42) from the foul line last year
• Mack provided a spark of the bench for Concord last year, shooting 40.3 percent from the field and averaging 6.8 points per game
• Center
Sammi Webster is the only senior on the 2013-14 squad. Last season, she was the team leader in field goal percentage at 46 percent (52-for-113).
• Webster will bring much-needed leadership to a team that will feature 10 newcomers
• Junior guard
Melea Smith, who transferred from Columbus State Community College, averaged 11.4 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game

• In its exhibition against WVU, the Mountain Lions were led by Bertrand who scored 10 points and pulled down four rebounds.
• Wetter and Wagner also grabbed four rebounds each against the Mountaineers.
• Lincoln Memorial head coach Roger Hodge will be facing a familiar opponent; he is a 1992 graduate of Concord
• Hodge is 28-28 in two seasons at Lincoln Memorial.
• LMU enters Wednesday's game at 0-1 on the season after starting the year with a four-point (56-52) loss against Winston-Salem State.
• Aisjah Roan led the Railsplitters against WSSU with 20 points and three steals.
• Last year's game between the Mountain Lions and Railsplitters featured four ties and 12 lead changes before LMU prevailed with a 60-55 win.
• A win over Lincoln Memorial would be the first for Concord against the Railsplitters.
• A win over Lincoln Memorial would move Osborne to within nine wins of 200 for him as the head coach at Concord.
• A win over Lincoln Memorial would be the second time in three years the Mountain Lions have won their season opening game.
