ATHENS, W. Va. – The Concord University volleyball team will look to snap its season-long three-match losing streak 5:00 p.m. Friday at West Liberty in Mountain East Conference competition.
Records: Concord enters the match at 7-9 overall and 0-2 in MEC play. West Liberty brings a similar record into the match at 6-8 overall and 1-2 in league play. The Hilltoppers have lost two out of its last three matches.
Scouting the Mountain Lions: Through 16 games, Concord ranks second in the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.142), blocks per set (2.28) and aces per set (2.16).
Individually, junior setter
Amanda Walker leads the league in aces (32), freshman middle hitter
Lauren Richardson is second in blocks per set (1.04), senior middle hitter
Jasmin Sutherland is fifth in blocks per set (0.95) and seventh in hitting percentage (.275) while junior outside hitter
Brytni Willis rounds out the group by ranking eighth in kills at 148.
Sutherland has recorded at least four blocks in a match in four out of Concord's last five matches. Richardson has nearly matched her teammates output with three four-block matches in CU's last five contests of her own.
With 15 matches remaining in the regular season, Willis is on pace to set a career-high in kills. Willis' previous personal-best kill total was 263, she is on pace to finish 2013 with 296.
As a team, the Mountain Lions have served 119 aces while allowing just 89. Four different players have at least 18 aces on the year with Walker's league-best 32 aces leading the way followed by McMillan (20), junior
Lindsey Smith (20) and Willis (18). In addition to serving 11 aces, junior middle hitter
Sarah Jones also ranks second on the team with 146 kills and third in blocks at 40.
Walker and McMillan rank first and second in assists for Concord with 190 and 160, respectfully.
After Saturday's match, Concord returns to the Carter Center for four consecutive home matches starting with an Oct. 8 showdown vs. conference rival UVa.-Wise.
Scouting West Liberty: Rachel Zeigler has led the Hilltoppers this season with 149 kills (2.87 per set).Chelsea Bertie is second on the team with 94 kills. Peyton Miller's 27 blocks is a team-high. Opponents are hitting .241 against West Liberty thus far in 2013.
