Concord Ends Season at Charleston

ATHENS, W.Va.—The Concord University women's soccer team lost to Mountain East Conference foe the University of Charleston, 2-0, Tuesday afternoon at Trace Fork Field in Charleston, W. Va.

Concord played the Golden Eagles even through the first 77 minutes of the contest before Brittany Loveland gave Charleston a 1-0 lead off of a breakaway run at 77:18. Charleston extended their lead three minutes later with a goal from Paige Leaver, who put home a rebounded ball off a Loveland shot that was first blocked by sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Wasylko.

CU made a final push over the last five minutes of regulation when freshman forward Emily Cole took two shots on goal, but Charleston goalkeeper Megan Bauman was able to preserve the Charleston victory with consecutive saves. Cole tallied a team-high six shots on the day.

For the match, Concord outshot the Golden Eagles 13-12. The teams were even in corner kicks (7-7) as well as shots on goal (5-5).

Sophomore forward Kari Simon and freshman midfielder Brenda Arriaza both recorded two shots while junior back Abby Barber, sophomore back Samantha Wood, sophomore midfielder Chloe Barber each totaled one shot.

Wasylko (2-5-1) finished the match with three saves.

With the loss, the Mountain Lions conclude their season with an overall record of 6-9-2 and a 4-8-2 record in MEC contests. Charleston improves to 9-6-2 overall and 7-5-2 in conference play.
