INSTITUTE, W. Va. – The Concord University volleyball team won the opening set vs. West Virginia State, but was unable to hold onto its lead as the Yellow Jackets took the following three sets en route to a 3-1 victory over the Mountain Lions Saturday.
Concord earned a 25-22 win in the first set before falling to the Yellow Jackets 25-19, 25-22, 25-22 over the final three games. The loss drops Concord's record to 13-12 overall and 5-5 in the Mountain East Conference. West Virginia State improved to 9-10 overall and 5-4 in MEC matches.
Senior middle hitter
Jasmin Sutherland tallied a career-high 17 kills to lead the Mountain Lions. Fellow middle hitter junior
Sarah Jones recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 16 kills and 20 digs. Jones posted an impressive .405 attack percentage.
Junior setter
Nikki McMillan also registered a double-double, her sixth of the year, off of 26 assists and 12 digs in addition to five aces. McMillan finished just one assist and one ace shy of matching her career-highs in each category. Junior setter
Amanda Walker passed out 22 assists of her own in support of the CU offense for her fourth match of the year with at least 20 assists.

Felicia Huerta added to the Concord attack with eight and seven kills, respectively. Willis also chipped in 14 digs, one behind junior libero
Lindsey Smith's 15 for the second most on the team Saturday.
Anneelise Albrecht led the Yellow Jackets with a double-double of 17 kills and 18 digs.
Concord will look to snap its two-match losing streak when it returns home to the Carter Center Oct. 29 to host Wheeling Jesuit.
