Concord Falls in Three Sets at Charleston

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Concord University volleyball team lost a match for the first time in almost month Friday night as the University of Charleston managed to defeat the Mountain Lions, 3-0, in Mountain East Conference competition.

Concord never quite found its stride against Charleston, losing the straight-set match 25-10, 25-11 and 25-13.

The loss snaps Concord's six-match winning streak and drops its record to 13-11 overall and 5-4 in league play. Charleston improved to 14-8 overall and 5-4 in MEC matches. Before Friday, Concord had not lost a match since its Oct. 4 matchup vs. Fairmont State.

The Mountain Lions were paced by junior outside hitter Brytni Willis, who totaled five kills and seven digs on the night.

Senior middle hitter Jasmin Sutherland and junior middle hitter Sarah Jones added four kills and three kills, respectively, with Jones also collecting two blocks (one solo / one assisted) and nine digs.

Junior setter Amanda Walker chipped in two kills and six assists while junior libero Lindsey Smith came away with a match-high 11 digs. Junior setter Nikki McMillan, who also tallied six assists, accounted for Concord's lone ace of the match.

Katharine Furlong led the Golden Eagles to the victory with a match-best eight kills.

CU will look to return to its winning ways 4:00 p.m. Saturday at West Virginia State.
