ATHENS, W. Va. - Winners of three of its first four games, including a pair of Mountain East Conference victories, the Concord University football team will look to remain perfect in league play when it hosts Fairmont State 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Callaghan Stadium for homecoming.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Concord is coming off of an impressive 20-3 victory at West Liberty. Fairmont State snapped a two-game losing streak last week by defeating West Virginia State, 56-3, to even its record to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the MEC.
• The Mountain Lions are one of just three MEC teams that remain unbeaten in league play, along with Shepherd (3-0) and Charleston (2-0).
• Concord has the opportunity to start off 3-0 in conference play for just the second time in the last seven years. CU also began its conference schedule with three wins as a member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2011.
• While trailing Fairmont State 38-15 in the all-time series, Concord has controlled the matchup as of late, winning the last four contests including a 41-10 triumph last season.
• The Concord defense continues to impress on a national stage. In addition to holding opponents to 10 points or less in five of its last seven games dating back to 2012, the Mountain Lions currently rank second in the nation in points allowed (8.0 per game), total defense (228.8 ypg) and passing yards allowed (102.3 ypg) as well as third in third down conversion percentage (20.3%) and fourth in turnovers forced (13).
• Concord enters the week averaging 3.3 turnovers force per game. In comparrison, CU averaged 2.7 turnovers per game in 2012 and 3.1 in its conference championship season of 2011.
• Concord saw strong contributions from all three of its units in the Mountain Lions' 17-point defeat of West Liberty in week four.
• Offensively, sophomore running back
Calvinaugh Jones had his best performance of the season with 132 yards on the ground and one touchdown. The special teams effort was led by field goals from 42 yards and a school-record 48 yards from sophomore kicker
Andy Ellington. Defensively, senior safety
Josh Clark returned an interception for a touchdown while also forcing one fumble.
• For their performances, Ellington and Clark were named the MEC Special Teams and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
• Jones has now rushed for over 100 yards in a game on five occasions. His touchdown against the Hilltoppers was off of a career-long 45-yard rush.
• Five of Ellington's 11 made field goals in his career have been from at least 40 yards out.
• Clarks's pick-six was his second interception of the season, tying fellow senior defensive backs
Riyahd Richardson and
Davon Marion, who also intercepted a pass last week, for the team-lead.
• Senior linebacker
Jake Lilly, who still leads the nation with four forced fumbles, ranks third in the MEC with 41 tackles. Lilly is just 87 tackles (12.4 per game) away from breaking the CU record for career tackles. Lilly has 16 double-digit tackle efforts in 36 career games played.
• With sacks in each of Concord's last two games, sophomore defensive lineman
Anthony Pyle has tied sophomore defensive lineman
Ervin Moore for a team-high two sacks.
• Moore also leads Concord in tackles for loss at six.
• Redshirt freshman quarterback
Brian Novak ranks among the MEC's best in completion percentage (57.9 percent / third). passing yards (728 / fourth) and completions (66 / fourth).
• After a quiet start to the season, sophomore wide receiver
Ryan Stewart had his finest game of the season against West Liberty with season-highs of three receptions and 44 yards.
• After catching a career-high eight passes in Concord's week three loss at Bowie State, junior wide receiver
Darrick Williams came back with a respectable four receptions at WLU
• Early leads have proven to be key for Concord this season, the Mountain Lions are 3-0 when taking a lead into halftime.
• Sophomore punter
Andrew Huska net average of 41.1 is second best in the league.
• On the season, Concord's is averaging 34:29 time of possession per game.
• As a team, the Mountain Lions lead the MEC in total defense and points allowed while ranking sixth in total offense and point per game (21.0).
• Bill Owens, who played football for Concord in 1952-53 and was the first African American student-athlete at Concord, will be an honorary team captain.
SCOUTING FAIRMONT STATE
• Former Concord assistant coach Jason Woodman is in his first season as Fairmont State's head coach.
• The Fighting Falcons Dawrence Roberts is the reigning MEC Offensive Player of the Week. Roberts rushed for 175 yards on 14 attempts with two touchdowns against West Virginia State. He ranks third in the league in rushing yards at 389.
• Linebacker Garrett Davis is ranked fourth in the MEC in total tackles with 40 and fifth in tackles per game at 10.0.
• Fairmont State averages 28.5 ppg, the third most in league.Â
