CU Wins 4th Straight, Sweeps Glenville 3-0

ATHENS, W. Va. – The Concord University volleyball team extended its season-long winning streak to four matches Saturday at the Carter Center with a 3-0 shutout victory against Mountain East Conference rival Glenville State.

After a grueling 28-26 opening-set victory, Concord won the second and third sets with relative ease 25-17 and 25-14 for its third 3-0 win in its last four matches. CU did not trail for the entirety of the second and third sets.

The win pushes the Mountain Lions' overall record over the .500 mark at 11-10 while evening up its MEC record at 3-3. Glenville State drops to 5-14 overall and 1-6 in league play.

The Mountain Lions featured a balanced attack that saw six different players record at least four kills. Junior middle hitter Sarah Jones registered a team-high nine kills while freshman outside hitter Felicia Huerta and senior Jasmin Sutherland added seven kills each followed by five kills from junior outside hitter Brytni Willis and four kills apiece by senior middle hitter Rebecca Lovejoy and freshman middle hitter Lauren Richardson.

Huerta's seven kills were a season-high for the Front Royal, Va. native.

Jones also posted a match-high six blocks (one solo / five assisted). Hurerta (three block assists), Sutherland (three block assists), Richardson (three block assists) and Willis (two block assists) had multi-block efforts as well. Additionally, Willis made a match-best 12 digs.

Junior setters Amanda Walker and Nikki McMillan both recorded double-doubles. Walker totaled 16 assists and 10 digs while McMillan tallied 13 assists and 11 digs. McMillan also served two aces, one behind junior libero Lindsey Smith's match-high three aces.

Glenville State was led by Dejana Ludoski, who had 17 kills.

Concord will take its winning streak on the road for four matches starting with a showdown at Notre Dame College on Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
