URBANA, Ohio – The Concord University football team lost its first Mountain East Conference contest of the season Saturday, falling on the road to Urbana University 22-10.
The defeat drops Concord's record to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the MEC. Urbana improves to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in league competition. The loss is just Concord's second in its last nine games dating back to the 2012 season.
The Blue Knights scored the game's first 15 points before the Mountain Lions stormed back with 10 consecutive points of their own in the third quarter. However, Urbana withstood the Concord surge and added a touchdown in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Concord was led by sophomore running back
Calvinaugh Jones and sophomore defensive lineman
Tre Preston. Jones ran for 94 yards and one touchdown on 32 attempts while Preston made a career-high 10 tackles including three tackles for loss and one sack.

Davon Marion had five tackles and intercepted his second pass in CU's last three games to give himself a team-best three picks on the season.

Urbana set the tone for the day with a 75-yard touchdown pass on its first play from scrimmage to put the Blue Knights up 6-0. The Concord defense regrouped to hold the Urbana offense scoreless until UU converted a 44-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter to take a 9-0 advantage into halftime.
The Blue Nights stretched its lead to 15-0 early in the third period when Urbana quarterback DJ Mendenhall connected with Marc Johnson for a 98-yard touchdown after being pinned down at their own two yard-line by CU sophomore punter
Andrew Huska, who had three punts inside the 20 on the day.
Concord fought back over the remainder of the third quarter starting with an 11-play, 45-yard drive midway through the period that ended with a successful 39-yard field goal from sophomore kicker
Andy Ellington to give CU its first points.
Marion intercepted a Mendenhall pass on the ensuing possession, giving the Mountain Lions' offense the ball at the Urbana 25. Three plays later Jones broke free to sprint 23 yards into the end zone for his fourth touchdown in the last three games to make it a 15-10 game with four minutes to play in the third quarter.
However, Concord was unable to finish any of its final four drives of the game with points and Urbana added an insurance touchdown in the fourth quarter to escape with the 22-10 win.
Urbana was led by Mendenhall, who was 22-for-38 for 387 yards and three touchdowns. The Blue Knights held a 490-196 advantage over Concord in total offense.
The Mountain Lions will look to return to their winning ways when they host West Virginia Wesleyan on Oct. 19. Kickoff at Callaghan Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
