ATHENS, W. Va. – Junior middle hitter
Sarah Jones had a match-high 15 kills while senior middle hitter
Jasmin Sutherland added 12 kills and a season-high seven blocks of her own to lead the Concord University volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan Thursday night at the Carter Center.
The win, Concord's first over West Virginia Wesleyan under head coach
Kate Southcott, improved the Mountain Lions' record to 9-10 overall and 2-3 in Mountain East Conference play. The Bobcats drop to 6-13 overall and 4-1 in league play.
The Mountain Lions took the opening two sets 25-23 and 25-17 before the Bobcats avoided the sweep with a 25-20 victory in the third set. However, Concord came back to win its second match in as many nights with a 25-22 triumph in the fourth set.
Jones' 15-kill effort was her second-highest total of the season, she registered a career-best 18 kills Sept. 24 at King. She committed just four errors on 32 attacks for an impressive .344 attack percentage. In addition to her offensive performance, Jones added nine digs and four blocks (one solo / three assisted)
Sutherland continued her strong play of late with her second consecutive double-digit kill match and her fourth straight outing with at least four blocks.
Junior outside hitter
Brytni Willis chipped in nine kills, nine digs and matched a career-high with five blocks. Freshman outside hitter
Felicia Huerta also contributed four kills to the Concord cause.
Guiding Concord's offensive attack was junior setter
Nikki McMillan, who produced a season-high 24 assists. Fellow junior setter
Amanda Walker came off the bench with 12 assists.

Lindsey Smith tied her season-high with 17 digs while serving up two aces, both of which came in the waning moments of the fourth set to help secure the Mountain Lions' win.
The Maroon and Gray are now 5-2 at the Carter Center in 2013. As a team, CU held a .226-.135 advantage over Wesleyan in attack percentage.
The Bobcats were led by Erin Bond, who had 15 kills.
Concord will step out of MEC play when it hosts local rival Bluefield State 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Carter Center. CU defeated the Lady Blues 3-1 earlier in the season.
