ATHENS, W.Va.--The Concord University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision against the University of Charleston Tuesday afternoon at Anderson Field.

In the 28th minute, junior back Abby Barber fired a shot past starting UC goalie Jennifer Poppe. It was her team-best fifth goal of the season. The 1-0 CU lead stood for the rest of the first half and the start of the second half as the two clubs fought for possession of the ball.

Concord had an opportunity to extend its lead midway through the second stanza when freshman forward Emily Cole dribbled the ball into the open field and got past UC goalkeeper Megan Bauman, who started the second half in place of Poppe. Unfortunately for Cole and the rest the Mountain Lions the ball hit off the crossbar.

In the 84th minute, UC tied the game with a free kick goal from Kimberly D'Angelo. Less than four minutes later, Charleston pulled ahead when Lydia Murray beat CU freshman goalie Kristin Twomey.

On the day, Concord had six shots on goal with Barber and Cole finishing with two each while freshman forward Kari Simon and senior midfielder Melissa Woo Ling had one apiece. Twomey (3-2-1) finished with five saves.

As a team, Concord outshot the Golden Eagles 15-13 with UC holding a narrow 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

With the loss, CU falls to 3-5-1 overall and 1-4-1 in Mountain East Conference action. Charleston improved to 4-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play.

The Mountain Lions will travel to Notre Dame College Oct. 5 to face the Falcons. The game is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. kickoff.
