Concord Heads to WJU Aiming for 2nd-Straight Win

ATHENS, W. Va. - With just 10 games to play in the season, the Concord University men's basketball team will continue to position itself for a higher seed in the WVIAC Tournament when it travels to Wheeling Jesuit Thursday night in a game pitting the seventh and ninth ranked teams in the conference.

Records
• Concord and Wheeling Jesuit enter the game with nearly identical records. CU improved its record to 10-6 overall and 6-6 in the WVIAC with its win against Glenville State on Jan. 28.

• Wheeling Jesuit sits at 10-8 overall and 7-7 in league play after defeating West Virginia State.

Series
Wheeling Jesuit leads the all-time series 15-9, but Concord has won two of the last three meetings, including last season's 89-84 overtime victory in the second round of the WVIAC Tournament.

Scouting Concord
• On the season, Concord is scoring 73.5 points per game and shooting 44.5 percent from the field.

• Concord ranks third in the WVIAC in three-point shooting (37.5 percent) and fourth in rebounding margin (+4.7).

• Concord is 8-1 this season when leading at halftime, 8-2 when out rebounding its opponents and 6-0 when holding its opponents below 45 percent shooting.

• Freshman guard Cam Shannon has started Concord's last three games, averaging 7.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in the contests.

• Shannon has his last 14 free throw attempts.

• Freshman forward Nick Moyer earned the first start of college career vs. Glenville. He responded by scoring six points and grabbing eight rebounds in 23 minutes.

• Senior center Gentry Shrewsbury will be playing in his 100th game as a Mountain Lion against Wheeling Jesuit.

• Sophomore guard Mike Boyd, who has made more turnovers than assists in just one game this year, ranks second in the WVIAC in assist/turnover ratio.

• After going 12-for-17 game from the field in his last three games sophomore forward Jordan Davis has improved his field goal percentage to 59.8 percent, the fourth-highest mark in the WVIAC.

• Junior forward Nick Ruffin has hit double-digit scoring totals in CU's last two games with 10 points at Seton Hill and 12 points vs. Glenville State.

Scouting Wheeling Jesuit
Five members of Wheeling Jesuit's eight-man rotation average at least 10 points a game with the duo of Justin Fritts and Ben Siefert leading the way at 15.9 ppg and 15.6 ppg, respectfully, Siefert also leads the league in assists per game at 6.8.

As a team, Wheeling Jesuit ranks second in the WVIAC in assists per game (20.8), fourth in field goal percentage (48.7 percent) and fifth in steals (8.8 per game).

The Coaches
Former Concord standout Kent McBride is in his second season in charge of the Mountain Lion program. He has tallied a record of 27-18 in his time in Athens. McBride already ranks eighth all-time in wins by a Concord coach despite not even having coached for two full seasons.

A Wheeling Jesuit alum, Dan Sancomb is 92-72 in six seasons as the Cardinals' head coach.
