Concord Returns Home to Host Fairmont State

ATHENS, W. Va. - The Concord University women's basketball team will look to win back-to-back games for the second time this season when it hosts Fairmont State at the Carter Center Saturday. The Mountain Lions are coming off of their largest win of the year, a 72-48 victory at Ohio Valley on Jan 7.

Campers Get In Free: The Concord University men's and women's basketball programs will hold a camp reunion when the Mountain Lions host Fairmont State for anyone who attended either teams' skills camps this past summer. Those who attended the camps will be granted free admission to both the women's and men's games as long as they wear the t-shirt each camper received from one of the two clinics.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
Records: Concord is 4-9 overall this season and 3-4 in West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Fairmont State has won three consecutive games to improve its record to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the WVIAC.

Series: Since the 1994-95 season, Concord holds an 11-9 edge over Fairmont State. Concord won a pair of games over the Fighting Falcons last season: 79-78 and 80-72. Concord has won seven of the last 10 games vs. FSU.

Scouting Concord: The Mountain Lions have been very careful with the basketball this season; Concord commits just 14.1 turnovers per game, which is the 13th best average in the nation.

• As a team, Concord is shooting 37.1 percent from the field this season and has scored 66.1 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 44.0 percent and score 64.9 ppg.

• Junior forward Andrea Bertrand appears to be well on the way to regaining her All-WVIAC form from a season ago. In her last three games, Bertrand is averaging 21.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the field.

• Sophomore guard Stephanie Wagner, who ranks, second in the WVIAC in assists per game, has tallied eight and six assists in CU's past two games in addition to scoring 15 points at Ohio Valley. The eight assists were a team-high this season.

• Sophomore forward Jacqueline Kestner has compiled two solid games consecutively. After grabbing eight rebounds, to go with four steals and three assists against Bluefield State, she scored a career-high 10 points at OVU.

• Sophomore forward Rachel Artrip has blocked two shots in two of the last three games.

• Senior guard Katy Somerville has made six of her last 11 three-point attempts (54.5 percent).

• Senior guard Tanisha Williams is ninth in the WVIAC in steals.

Scouting Fairmont State: Fairmont State comes to the Carter Center sporting the WVIAC's top defense. The Fighting Falcons allow just 61.9 points per game.

• Kaitlin Snyder averages 17.6 points, 4.2 assists and 2.8 steals per game to lead Fairmont State. Tiffany Nicholson leads the league in steals (3.3 per game) and Hailey Garrett is the conferences fifth-leading rebounder (8.5 per game).

The Coaches: Kenny Osborne is 198-182 overall as a head coach and 186-167 in his time at Concord. Steve McDonald has put together a record of 244-118 in his 13 seasons at Fairmont State.
