Soccer falls 2-0 at WV Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. - The Concord University women's soccer team opened up West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play by losing to West Virginia Wesleyan, 2-0, Saturday night.

Fiona Mearns, Kari Simon, Erika Hoff and Abby Barber all recorded shots for the Mountain Lions. Goalie Kaitlyn Wasylko stopped seven shots and allowed both goals in 90 minutes of play.

Concord (0-3-1, 0-1 WVIAC) fell behind early when Olivia Peduzzi scored for West Virginia Wesleyan (2-1-1, 1-0 WVIAC) just two minutes into regulation. Neither side could gain an advantage for the remainder of the half until Megan McCoy scored off of a Heather Sanders pass at 43:26 to give West Virginia Wesleyan a 2-0 lead that it would take into halftime.

The Mountain Lions put pressure on the Wesleyan defense in the second half when Mearns, Simon and Hoff all put shots on goal within 10 minutes of each other, but none of the attempts were able to find their ways into the back of net.

For the game, Weslayan held 16-4 and 2-1 advantages in shots and corners, respectively.

Concord will look for its first win of the season when it travels to Pitt-Johnstown Sept. 12. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
