Volleyball Closes Weekend with Sweep of Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Concord University women's volleyball team defeated Shepherd, 3-0, Saturday. The Mountain Lions earned the three-set victory with winning scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-23.

The win over Shepherd closed out a week for the Mountain Lions that saw Concord win four of its five matches played including a pair of crucial conference wins.

With Saturday's victory, Concord's record now stands at 7-11 overall and 2-2 in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The loss drops Shepherd's record to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the WVIAC.

Brytni Willis led the way for Concord by recording her second double-double in as many matches. Willis finished Saturday with a match-high 11 kills and 10 digs to go with a .643 hitting percentage. Sarah Jones matched Willis with 11 kills of her own while Lindsey Smith and Amanda Walker both equaled Willis' dig totals as well.

Jasmin Sutherland was a force up front vs. the Rams, making a match-best seven blocks. Jones and Willis also got in on the blocking action with four and three rejections, respectively.

Walker guided the offensive attack with 10 assists. Fellow setter Nikki McMillan added six assists.

With its three-match road trip now in the books, Concord returns to the Carter Center 6:00 p.m. Oct.2 to take on Southern Virginia in non-conference action.
