Women's Soccer Falls 3-1 At Wheeling Jesuit

WHEELING, W. Va. - Concord University women's soccer fell Saturday afternoon in a West Virginia Intercollegiate Conference game versus Wheeling Jesuit, 3-1. This match brings CU's overall record to 1-6-2 and 1-4-1 within the conference.

The Mountain Lion's freshman forward Kari Simon took a team-high three shots with two shots on goal. In that effort Simon scored the first goal of the game off an assist from sopohomore defender Abby Barber making the score 1-0. 

CU couldn't hold off the efforts of the Cardinals who grabbed a total of 14 shots.

After Simon's goal at 34:22, Wheeling Jesuit's senior midfielder Ashley McGinnis retaliated with a score of her own with seconds left in the first half (44:01) assisted by Mimi Earnest. This goal led to the 1-1 tie going into the second half.

Concord was unable to answer back allowing two more goals by freshman defender Morgan Headings and sophomore forward Allison Geary. These goals resulted in Wheeling Jesuit's victory with a final score of 3-1.

Barber and sophomore forward Alyanna James also took a shot each during the match-up. CU totaled five shots with four shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Wasylko accrued six saves, allowing three goals on the day.

The Mountain Lions will be hosting Southern Virginia University in a non-conference match-up on Thursday, October 4th. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Anderson Field.
