	ATHENS, W. Va. – Despite playing a player down for 68 minutes, the Concord University women's soccer team was able to erase a one-goal deficit and force a 1-1 tie with Charleston University, who entered the game ranked first in the WVIAC standings, Tuesday afternoon at Anderson Field.
 
The contest was interrupted by lightning late in the first half causing a delay that would last roughly an hour. Concord's record now stands at 1-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the WVIAC. Charleston leaves Concord with an overall record of 3-5-1 and a conference mark of 3-1-1.
Alyanna James continued her strong season by scoring Concord's lone goal and taking a match-high four shots. 
Kari Simon attacked the UC defense with three shots while 
Abby Barber, 
Brianne LaFemina and 
Erika Hoff all registered one shot on the day.
Goalie 
Kaitlyn Wasylko, the WVIAC's leader in saves, stopped five shots to help Concord maintain the draw.
After a scoreless stretch that lasted the majority of the first half, Charleston's Lauren Haven broke the 0-0 tie at 37:22 with her first goal of the season when she beat Wasylko to give UC a 1-0 lead that it would take into the half.
With 3:01 to play in the first half, Hoff was red carded, forcing Concord to play one player short for the remainder of the match.
Concord battled the adversity and managed to tie the game when James put away her team-leading third goal of the season in the second half to tie the match at 1-1. After 90 minutes of play the game remained tied and the two teams headed for overtime in the pouring rain.
However, the two evenly matched teams remained tied after two 10-minute overtime periods, resulting in the second tie of the season for Concord.
For the game, Charleston held 16-10 and 3-2 advantages in shots and corners, respectively.
Concord will now hit the road for two games starting with a 2:30 p.m. contest at Wheeling Jesuit Sept. 29.
